Well, in a "civilized" place it's a deterrent.

The problem with the South and other such states is they do it because they like revenge, it makes them feel good about themselves. I know, I work with a dude from Mississippi and he's a smart idiot. He can think, he just chooses not to and says "well, I believe this because I'm from Mississippi" and he hits his wife and 1 1/2 year old child and their relationship sucks and his life is a nightmare.

But he got promoted last week, not because he wanted promotion, just because he wanted more money, and he told them this, now he walks around like he's some kind of God or something.

I'm sure some do, but for others, it's justice for crimes so heinous that the person who committed them deserves to die.

There are families out there who's child was raped and murdered by these people who would probably disagree with you.

I used to be too, but the govt screws so much stuff up I'm not sure they are to be trusted to properly prosecute and convict people to death.

To me, if you don't trust the govt to do anything else well, you shouldn't trust them to execute people.
