Zone1 The Handmaid's Tale: A Perversion of Christianity

I've never been shocked by anything I've read on this forum...until I read this. So--you've never experienced the love that can flow between God and the individual. If "God as a concept" is familiar to Jews, it explains atheism in Judaism, yet fails to explain how a concept can have a chosen people. Perhaps you know?
That's what happens you try to define God using only logic and deliberately limit your understanding to only what can be proven by man's understanding of science.

You cant comprehend god so you reduce it to a person with a name and personality thats literally an idol.

Its called idol worship

On the contrary, we are acknowledging that He is far greater than anything we can understand and comprehend. It is the atheist who refuses to acknowledge that and insists on limiting God to what can be reproduced in a laboratory.

Tell me, Joe. What on your list can be described as holy?

None of it.

And none of it is actually wrong or bad, either. That's the thing.

Now, there are things I think are bad - murder, theft, etc. Things that do actual harm to other human beings.

If religion restricted itself to that alone, I probably wouldn't have as much of a problem with it.

But religion is about "control", not morality.

Whether it be not eating meat on a Friday during Lent or making some woman wear a burkha, ("stop showing that ankle, you slut!") or making everyone show up at a house of worship once a week to grovel in front of the imaginary sky man, most of what you call "holy" is about control.

And trying to ban behavior you don't like is, too.

I would never have an abortion, or get a gay marriage, and porn frankly bores me. But I wouldn't tell anyone that they couldn't indulge in those things, because it isn't any of my business.

As a result you dumb down god to a person with name an idol

Defining a mental illness such as gender dysphoria as normal is an act of cruelty

His actual name is unpronounceable. We refer to the name He took when He became one of us, but we do not claim to limit Him to our understanding. You can yell "IDOL!!!" all you want, but that only occurs when we try to limit God. We do not do that.

But the flaw is this: just because the Bible RECORDS it doesn't mean the Bible ENDORSES it. Nowhere did God give this decree, which is adultery. The idea stemmed solely from desperate women. Once the deed is done, God can use sinful people and even sinful actions to His end. But He did not either command or endorse the sin.

Excellent point, and not just re this TV show; that is a common error many make about biblical rhertoric.

Jesus is a limitation a reduction from the original Hebrew concept. I have seen Catholics pray to a stature of Mary.

Tried to watch that series a month or so ago. Made it about a third of the way through the first episode. I decided to watch the first three seasons of Fargo for the 4th time instead. the accents still crack me up to this day.

Irony: We have never met, you don't know me. Yet you are continually telling me what I am doing and always getting it wrong. In other words, you cannot comprehend me. Yet I am more than a concept you get wrong. Truth: We cannot even totally comprehend the people we are closest to, let alone someone posting on the Internet. That does not mean we are a concept, and it doesn't mean we cannot know/comprehend a bit about others who post.

Knowing God is recognizing and accepting I can only know Him to the extent of my own capabilities. I am continually awed by how much I don't know of God/about God, yet am thankful and grateful that I do know him as much as I am capable of knowing Him.

Daniel said that people who know God take action. Jeremiah was of the mind that nothing is more valuable than knowing God. There are other biblical passages that encourage readers to know God as it is the way to kindness, etc.

So you can comprehend God. You should start your own religion.

He had to be temporarily limited as He became man. He is, however, much more than mere man.

I'm not Catholic. I don't pray, genuflect or bow before any statue.
Yes hes an idol based on Joseph Campbells hero myth.
In mythology, particularly Greek, a hero is often a semi-divine, mortal figure of the remote past known for exceptional strength, courage, and abilities, frequently performing superhuman feats, battling monsters, and seeking glory (kleos). These heroes, such as Hercules or Perseus, typically have one divine parent and one mortal parent, often acting as "defenders".

Key Characteristics of Mythological Heroes:

  • Divine Ancestry & Mortality: They are often demigods (e.g., Achilles, son of Thetis). While superhuman, they are not immortal, creating a central conflict in their tales.
  • The Quest for Glory (Kleos): Heroes live and die for honor and fame, striving to leave a legacy through daring, often violent, accomplishments.
  • Superhuman Abilities: They possess extraordinary strength, wit, or skill far exceeding that of ordinary humans.
  • Flawed Humanity: Despite their greatness, many are arrogant, impulsive, or reckless, often leading to tragic ends.
