Every incoming president replaces the previous president's U.S. attorneys, and Trump has done this every time. When a Democratic president takes office after Trump, they'll likely do the same, it’s a cycle. It makes no sense for a new president to keep political appointees like Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, and Pete Hegseth in their roles. These are political appointees, much like U.S. attorneys are. However, the individual Trump targeted was not a political appointee and was not a US attorney. You can't arbitrarily fire someone without just cause, it’s illegal under federal law. Trump breaking the law shouldn't come as a surprise;, he is, after all, a convicted felon.

And ironically, even if he committed a crime, it's going to be impossible to actually prosecute him since half the things he is being accused of would involve core presidential duties and therefore he has absolute immunity under the supreme Court's rulings, or would deal with things on the outskirts of presidential duties, which means he has presumptive immunity and would need to have a crime proven just to get him indicted. Then you add in the fact that the supreme Court also ruled that any type of official or personal communications from him or his staff are not asmissible as evidence and it's going to be nearly impossible to convict him even if he did commit a crime
