Charles Spurgeon compares the righteous to the cedars of Lebanon in this devotional. The Hebrew root meaning of the 'erez is "to be firm." 'Erez in the Holy Bible refers to the Cedrus lebani, the cedar of Lebanon. In Isaiah 35:2 it is referred to as the "Glory of Lebanon." The cedar is known for its shade, its strong boughs, its stature, strength, and beauty. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon (Psalm 92:12).

Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth. All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.
Ezekiel 31:5,6

"The cedars of Lebanon which He hath planted."—Psalm 104:16.

EBANON'S cedars are emblematic of the Christian, in that they owe their planting entirely to the Lord. This is quite true of every child of God. He is not man- planted, nor self-planted but God-planted. The mysterious hand of the divine Spirit dropped the living seed into a heart which He had Himself prepared for its reception.

Every true heir of heaven owns the great Husbandman as his planter. Moreover, the cedars of Lebanon are not dependent upon man for their watering; they stand on the lofty rock, unmoistened by human irrigation; and yet our heavenly Father supplieth them. Thus it is with the Christian who has learned to live by faith. He is independent of man, even in temporal things; for his continued maintenance he looks to the Lord his God, and to Him alone.

The dew of heaven is his portion, and the God of heaven is his fountain. Again, the cedars of Lebanon are not protected by any mortal power. They owe nothing to man for their preservation from stormy wind and tempest. They are God's trees, kept and preserved by Him, and by Him alone.

It is precisely the same with the Christian. He is not a hot-house plant, sheltered from temptation; he stands in the most exposed position; he has no shelter, no protection, except this, that the broad wings of the eternal God always cover the cedars which He Himself has planted.

Like cedars, believers are full of sap having vitality enough to be ever green, even amid winter's snows. Lastly, the flourishing and majestic condition of the cedar is to the praise of God only. The Lord, even the Lord alone hath been everything unto the cedars, and, therefore David very sweetly puts it in one of the psalms, "Praise ye the Lord, fruitful trees and all cedars."

In the believer there is nothing that can magnify man; he is planted, nourished, and protected by the Lord's own hand, and to Him let all the glory be.

The righteous are like the cedars of Lebanon. The grow in rough terrain. They do not get their water from the soil but from the heavens. Like the Cedars of Lebanon, the righteous grow slowly. Their roots go deep and their boughs grow strong. When the storms come they do not seek shelter, they give it.

Their source is not found in themselves but rather in God who has planted them and therein they do not depend on any man for comfort, strength, or provision. Their help comes from the LORD.

The righteous are like the cedars of Lebanon. The strong survive. They bear fruit when fully mature and continue to bear fruit for centuries, long after other trees have rotted and decayed. The cedars of Lebanon are known for their resistance to decay. They stand firm on rock laden hillsides, in wide open places defying all elements about them, no matter how severe the onslaught. Through torrential storms their roots grow deeper and stronger. The oil within the Cedar is a natural repellent to moths and insects. The fragrance of the Cedar of Lebanon wood is lovely.

The cedars of Lebanon are a reminder of God's faithfulness to the righteous who trust in Him alone.

I was looking at photo's of cedar of Lebanon trees after I signed off board tonight and found this:

I love this photograph because these cedar of Lebanon trees are in their natural habitat (in Lebanon) and do not have that manicured lawn, transplanted to another local look. So I decided to change the photo in my OP to this one. I hope you like this one. I certainly do!
