Exactly what is t he butterfly effect? I've read that it is a foundational concept in chaos theory. Uhm, okay.

If anybody is to believe in it, we have to acknowledge that even "small, seemingly insignificant changes in the initial conditions of a complex system can lead to wildly unpredictable, large-scale consequences.".

I see a statement that this "illustrates how deterministic systems are highly sensitive to even the slightest variations.".

Dante's question is, do some people who believe in it, then put it aside when getting involved in discussions of science that become political? Dante sees some issues being twisted for ideological reasons, science be damned.
