Look at the date of the press report, the earliest one was six months after COVID was identified in the western world. China spent those months busily stating that the threat was overblown and allowing international travel from Wuhan while completely blocking internal travel. What Trump was saying was diplomat-speak, trying to get China to open up and allow western experts access to Wuhan to trace the infection source which as I recall it never did.

The members of PATCO signed no strike agreements when they were hired and PATCO was specifically warned by Reagan before he eliminated the Association. It wasn't a union because unions of federal employees are illegal. Also, Air Traffic controllers are and were very highly paid professionals. The average salary in 2024 is $94,931.00, max salary is $168,000.00 with excellent benefits and a fixed benefit pension as well as a 401K. No one with any sense strikes to get a better deal than that.
