The aftermath of Trump's acquittal in his second impeachment trial

100% exonerated twice equals 200% not guilty and exonerated .
Those facts are maddening to emotion addled liberals and even the “100% exoneration ” thread has to be relegated to the hinterlands to quell the outbursts . Innocence is a tough pill when you try and feast on Fake fantasy feeling sugar placebos

The Republican Party has given a free pass to future Presidents for anything they might do in the closing days of their term of office. A former President incited an insurrection against our government during the closing days of his term of office. It doesn't get worse than that.

The Republican Party acquitted the former President!

ABC News reported, "Exactly a month and a week after insurrectionists incited a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, former President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial came to a climactic end on Saturday afternoon, with Trump being acquitted for his alleged role of inciting the deadly event. A majority of senators voted to convict the former president, but failed to reach the super majority threshold needed for a conviction."

To provide an example of the perfidy of the Republican Party one need only look at the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Despite the opinions of nearly all Constitution experts Constitution lawyers to the contrary, McConnell said "he voted "not guilty" because he believes Trump is "constitutionally not eligible for conviction" given that he is no longer president," according to NBC News.

In addition, a Senate resolution established the Senate's jurisdiction in the impeachment trial. McConnell and most Republicans violated a Senate resolution. McConnell said nothing about the evidence. He couldn't. The evidence was overwhelming.

The American people have already spoken, but the Republican Party is not paying attention. Under their leadership, the Republican Party has lost the House, Senate, and the White House in just the last four years.

Now this. A Republican President committed an act of sedition, and the Republican Party freed him from consequences. With the precedence set, all future Presidents are free of responsibility for any action they might take in the closing days of their term.

It is easy to surmise this might be opening act of the decline of American democracy.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we lose our freedoms it will be because we have destroyed ourselves from within. Abraham Lincoln

The American people will remember this day. The Republican Party lost with this feckless decision.
The Democrat party will come to regret these faux inquisitions and impeachments as they are turned on them. Payback will be a bitch. Biden should be investigated and impeached right now.

Well, that was a surprise. We heard from a couple of Trump's fans today.

However, as is their custom, they failed to deal with anything I said and simply repeated some of their fantasies that have no relationship to reality.

As on a positive note, maybe they will learn something by following this thread. One can always hope.

The Times reported, "Republican state organizations, dominated by far-right activists and supporters of Mr. Trump, have censured House members who voted in favor of impeachment, most notably Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming. Senate Republicans, including Richard M. Burr of North Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Patrick J. Toomey of Pennsylvania, have faced similar condemnations from their state parties for voting to convict him.

"Senator John Thune of South Dakota on Friday accused Trump supporters who have targeted conservative critics of the former president — including seven Senate Republicans who voted to convict him at his impeachment trial — of engaging in “cancel culture.”

"Mr. Thune, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, has been sharply critical of Mr. Trump’s behavior ahead of the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol but voted to acquit him, citing constitutional objections.

"Mr. Thune — echoing the sentiments of Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the minority leader — cautioned Republicans not to ally themselves with candidates whose statements were so extreme that they would alienate swing voters. He also pledged to back candidates “who don’t go off and talk about conspiracies and that sort of thing.'"

The Republican Party is doing its best to erase Trump's provocative and counter-productive influence, but most of Trump's followers are not interested honesty and integrity. They are into chaos and anarchy.

I do not understand this at all. I have been following politics for over 50 years, and this is strangest phenomenon I have ever seen on the political stage.

Trump’s allies aren’t backing away from the idea that support for his agenda will help Republicans in primaries.o_O

When you know you’ve got the muscle of President Trump behind you, and all of the devoted loyal followers of the president, and even as important or more important, his America first policies, that’s going to be hard to beat,” Roy Bailey, a Texas businessman and former head of Trump Victory, a joint fundraising committee between the campaign and the Republican National Committee, told CNBC.

Under Trump's leadership, the Republicans lost the House, Senate, and the Presidency in four years. That's the first time that has happened in 90 years.

In Georgia, Trump campaigned for the two Republican candidates in the special election on Jan. 5. Republicans needed only one to win to retain the majority in the Senate. Both Republicans lost, and the Democrats became the majority.

Trump campaigned for the Republican Senatorial candidates in Arizona. Arizona has Two Democratic Senators For the First Time Since 1952.

What is the point of winning in the primaries only to lose in the general election as has been the case for four years?

The strange spectacle continues.

Aftermath is the Democrats have set the precedent of using impeachment for political purposes they did this with two totally partisan impeachment’s. You can be assured if the Republicans take back the House in 2020 the odds are pretty good Joe Biden will be the recipient of a totally partisan impeachment as well.

This continues to gall me.

The Senate minority leader called Trump "practically and morally responsible" for the riot and explained that he voted to acquit only because he believed that the Constitution does not allow for the Senate to convict a former president.

There is no proof of that anywhere in the Constitution!

That was an excuse the Republicans used. They didn't want to piss off Trump's cult.

For various reasons I have always thought that Trump set out to destroy the Republican Party. Trump is vindictive and afflicted with extreme narcissism. Some one attacks him, he must strike back -- hard! -- never mind the circumstances.

This may go back to 2016 primaries where his Republican rivals were not kind to Trump.

Trump continues to follow Putin's cue -- after leading an insurrection against the American government and denying the peaceful exchange of power, the destruction of a major party in the United States. He has already caused enormous damage to the Republican Party. Under his leadership, the GOP lost the House, Senate, and Presidency within four years.

Politico reports, "According to three people familiar with the planning, Trump will soon begin vetting candidates at Mar-a-Lago who are eager to fulfill his promise to exact vengeance upon incumbent Republicans who’ve scorned him, and to ensure every open GOP seat in the 2022 midterms has a MAGA-approved contender vying for it.

"Trump already has received dozens of requests from prospective candidates seeking to introduce themselves and nab his endorsement, and formal meetings with them could begin as early as March."

Of course, he is also doing it for the money.

"Now that Trump has survived his second Senate impeachment trial, he has shifted his focus to post-presidential activism — a venture mostly bankrolled by his new leadership PAC, Save America, which had $31 million in its coffers at the start of this month."

It has already been proven that Trump's candidates can't win the general election. Trump is doing this out of rage -- vengeance against the party that scorned him.

Ignore the jerks who used emoticons to mock your post. The truth rings from coast to coast and you hit a homerun with this thread. I hope everyone reads and understands that Donald Trump is the worst person to ever serve as POTUS.

Agreed that Trump is the worst "person" to ever serve as president.
As General Kelly said, "he is a very flawed man".
Personal faults aside, Trump's policies were better for the US and the working class than anything the democrats have done.

What Xiden and the democrats have done is open borders, China first globalist policies, killing US energy jobs, and "big brother" style censorship. The US oligarchs and China are now running the US.

I couldn't disagree more; your second paragraph is foolish.

For those who think Trump is past tense, think again.

Politico reports, "Former President Donald Trump is slated to speak at next week’s Conservative Political Action Conference, according to two people familiar with the appearance.

"Trump will “be talking about the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement,” one of the people said. “Also look for the 45th President to take on President Biden’s disastrous amnesty and border policies.”

This I gotta see. Ordinarily he talks about himself. No doubt the aspiration that he won the election by a landslide will be mentioned.

Politico continued, "The conference will take place Feb. 25-28 in Orlando, Fla. Trump is scheduled to speak Feb. 28.

"Since leaving office Trump has given several TV interviews on friendly outlets and released public statements, but has yet to speak before an audience. It will be Trump's first major address since the Senate impeachment trial that focused on his role in the Jan. 6 riot.

"It will also be the first time Trump has spoken out after he released a scathing multi-page statement going after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). Trump's statement — which came after McConnell savaged the former president's role in the Capitol insurrection — called the minority leader "a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack."

"Trump is expected to play an active role in the 2022 midterm elections and has privately told people in recent days that he is weighing a 2024 comeback bid."

To members of CPAC I say this. "Be careful what you wish for." This could end up being a disaster for the conference.

“It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree.” The only way they get away with it is because the mainstream media dominates all television news and all radio news spots, and has the ear of the vast majority of Americans—most of whom are too lazy to dig deep in the worldwide web for the truth. Even that is becoming much harder to do in today’s highly censored world!

Thats bullshit. If he incited a riot that ended in deaths because his words, he is liable in CRIMINAL COURT as a civilian....which can have much worse penalties.

What a load of crap.

More than likely Trump will be indicted, but you are missing the point. Despite overwhelming evidence that Trump incited an armed mob loyal to him, incited an insurrection that got five people killed, the Republican Party said he was not guilty.

That is not a load of crap.

Neither is the horrible precedent the Republican Party created. In the closing days of their term of office the U.S. Senate gave future Presidents a free pass to do anything they wish.

"There's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it," the Republican Senate Minority Leader said Saturday. "The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president."

The fact that Trump incited an insurrection is highly significant. If that isn't an impeachable offense, what the hell is?

I would like an answer to that question.

Republicans can't have it both ways. Republicans free Trump, but it is okay to indict him in criminal court. It doesn't work that way. Republicans are responsible for what they did.

More commie lies. One, maybe two people were killed, three others died from preexisting conditions, including the capitol hill officer. But don't bet the farm there will be any criminal charges against Trump. You'll probably lose, again.

.

Trump was acquitted primarily because the "impeachment" was unconstitutional, as voted so by 45 Republican senators.

A Senate resolution passed on Tuesday gave the Senate jurisdiction, meaning the trial was constitutional.

McConnell did not provide any evidence to the contrary. Not one one Republican did. They just said it was unconstitutional and to hell with an explanation as to why.

As McConnell also said: "If Trump broke ANY law while he was president, even in the last month, he can be indicted and tried in a court of law." A real court, with real witnesses, and real evidence, and a real judge.

Yes, McConnell wants it both ways. He doesn't want to be responsible for the decision he and his party made.

Republicans are responsible for setting a horrible precedent for future Presidents. What part of that sentence don't you understand?

What you don't understand, if it were maobama on trial, the commies would have done the same fucking thing. But that would be different, RIGHT!?

If what you say is true then I imagine double jeopardy protects Trump, and hence, he cannot be charged again with the same crimes? Is that what you are saying?

List the policies and their effect on the working class that were improved by Trump? The Tax "Reform" Bill he signed, written by the lame duck H. of Rep. eliminated the top two tax brackets, and doubled the Standard Deduction which will sunset in 2027; of course the two top tax brackets will remain deleted. Corporations got a great deal, some don't even pay a penny in the Federal Income Tax. Is this a policy which is better for the working class?

The middle class too is paying more, sense the State Income Tax and Real Estate Tax deductions were cut to $10,000. Thus, we are paying in the next highest tax bracket, and each year will pay more in taxes and fees as the states are hurting do to the burden of the pandemic.

Poverty rate the lowest since 1958, household income increased by 5,800 a year. Highest workforce participation rate in decades, I could go on but you're really not worth it.
