The aftermath of Trump's acquittal in his second impeachment trial

The Republican Party has given a free pass to future Presidents for anything they might do in the closing days of their term of office. A former President incited an insurrection against our government during the closing days of his term of office. It doesn't get worse than that.

The Republican Party acquitted the former President!

Some are wondering why impeach a former President? What is the point?

There is the disgrace of being the only President in American history to be convicted in an impeachment trial. It is a legacy said President will take to his grave.

With a resolution that can be passed by a simple majority in the Senate, said President is barred forever running for office again. In this case, Trump's dream of running for President in 2024 goes away.

There are probably an assortment of other ramifications of being impeached. We just don't know what they are. We've never had an impeached President. Trump would have been the first.

Impeached or not, a President who led an insurrection attempt against his own government most likely would be tried in federal court for sedition. There is every likelihood that is in Trump's future.

Damn, talk about revisionist history. A not guilty verdict, is NOT A CONVICTION. Stupid little commie.

CNN reports, "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced in a letter to House Democrats on Monday plans for the creation of a "9/11-type commission" to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

"To protect our security, our next step will be to establish an outside, independent 9/11-type Commission to 'investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex,'" Pelosi wrote.

"A commission of this nature would be established by a statute, passed by both chambers and signed into law by the President. The commission members would not be elected leaders and would be outside the government.

A factor that many are interested in is, did Trump have any communication with the Pentagon? There were warnings. Why were they ignored. Why was there a delay in the National Guard response?

The Defense Department is facing scrutiny over its role in the events that took place on Jan. 6 after the D.C. government and Capitol Police accused Pentagon officials of slow-walking an emergency call for National Guard reinforcements as rioters threatened to breach the capitol.

Why did a security breakdown take place, leaving the Capitol all but defenseless against a marauding group of pro-Trump rioters?

More commie bullshit. Trump offered the DC mayor the National Guard and she declined. There were no delays in employing them once they were requested. It takes time to rally and deploy the National Guard, those folks have day jobs.

.

Trump's problems are just beginning. There are his problems N.Y. and Georgia.

Now there is this.

And this, according to CNN.

"Former President Donald Trump and attorney Rudy Giuliani are being accused of conspiring with the far-right groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to incite the January 6 insurrection in a civil lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court by the Democratic chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

"The lawsuit, filed by Mississippi Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson in his personal capacity, is the first civil action filed against the former President related to the attack at the US Capitol and comes days after the Senate acquitted Trump in his impeachment trial.

" If it proceeds, it would mean the former President and others would be subject to discovery and depositions, potentially exposing details and evidence that weren't released during the Senate impeachment trial."
Grow up and stop being a CNN lap dog

Mitch McConnell said, there was no question that Trump incited the riots and was responsible. Those were his words, in a speech. So he votes to acquit knowing this and then confirming it in a speech??? The republican party is corrupt to the core.

One mans opinion, no more valid than any other.

No one is talking about his "opinion." The point was to illustrate the thorough corruption in the GOP.

You responded didn't you? Others have as well. No problem there.

You want a link to a public speech made in front of the senate, in which McConnell thoroughly blamed Trump for inciting the riots? Here you go, you're welcome.

The Republican Party acquitted the former President!

ABC News reported, "Exactly a month and a week after insurrectionists incited a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, former President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial came to a climactic end on Saturday afternoon, with Trump being acquitted for his alleged role of inciting the deadly event. A majority of senators voted to convict the former president, but failed to reach the super majority threshold needed for a conviction."

To provide an example of the perfidy of the Republican Party one need only look at the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Despite the opinions of nearly all Constitution experts Constitution lawyers to the contrary, McConnell said "he voted "not guilty" because he believes Trump is "constitutionally not eligible for conviction" given that he is no longer president," according to NBC News.

In addition, a Senate resolution established the Senate's jurisdiction in the impeachment trial. McConnell and most Republicans violated a Senate resolution. McConnell said nothing about the evidence. He couldn't. The evidence was overwhelming.

The American people have already spoken, but the Republican Party is not paying attention. Under their leadership, the Republican Party has lost the House, Senate, and the White House in just the last four years.

Now this. A Republican President committed an act of sedition, and the Republican Party freed him from consequences. With the precedence set, all future Presidents are free of responsibility for any action they might take in the closing days of their term.

It is easy to surmise this might be opening act of the decline of American democracy.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we lose our freedoms it will be because we have destroyed ourselves from within. Abraham Lincoln

The American people will remember this day. The Republican Party lost with this feckless decision.
Quick question,,,,, If Trump was behind the attack on the 6th why did he offer the Capitol police 10000 National Guard troops on the 4th and 5th?

Politicians being political in a political process, color me shocked. You're probably not old enough to remember the trial of wild willie. There was no doubt about his guilt and the commies acquitted him. So don't think you have any high ground on the topic. If you commies didn't have your situational outrage and hypocrisy you'd have nothing at all.

"riots"?????? You do understand that's a plural term, RIGHT!? Tell everyone exactly how many "riots" occurred.

"Trump is expected to play an active role in the 2022 midterm elections and has privately told people in recent days that he is weighing a 2024 comeback bid."

To members of CPAC, "Be careful what you wish for." This could end up being a disaster for the conference.

As President Biden and the Democratic Party are working hard to solve our nation's two most serious problems -- the pandemic and debilitating unemployment -- the Republican Party is sinking fast. It can't get rid of intelligence challenged Trump extremists.

Dean Obeidallah writes, "What happens when you incite an insurrection to prevent the congressional certification of the 2020 election results? Turns out you get invited to speak at a high-profile gathering of GOP elected officials and conservative activists. As outrageous as that appears, this is exactly what we're seeing with the American Conservative Union's invitation to Donald Trump to speak at this week's annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando.

"To be clear, I'm not urging CPAC to cancel Trump's speech. Rather, my hope is that all Americans will use the event to reflect on the dangerous developments for our democracy from the right. First, the majority of GOP members of Congress refused to hold Trump accountable for his two months of nonstop lies about the 2020 election and his incitement of the January 6 attack -- as we saw with only 17 of the 261 Republicans in the Senate and House voting to impeach or convict Trump.

"Now CPAC, which bills itself as "the largest and most influential gathering of conservatives in the world," is going a step further by celebrating the man who spewed the "Big Lie" and who encouraged people to storm our Capitol. Indeed, countless insurrectionists stated point blank they attacked the Capitol to "Stop the Steal" for Trump, with some proudly declaring during the deadly insurrection, "Trump sent us," and that they were following his directions."

OK, Much better. You switched from " The point was to illustrate the thorough corruption in the GOP."
To "McConnell thoroughly blamed Trump for inciting the riots?"

So we agree that Trump's bringing the protesters to DC led to the capitol riot, yet Trump committed no indictable crime.
The GOP is not "corrupt", i.e. mot "illustrated". For real corruption follow the many Xiden money trails.

p.s. I'm amazed that CPAC, the GOP big money boys, invited Trump to speak at their meeting.
So maybe Trump is just taking a 3-year break to get in-shape before campaigning for 2024?!
I hope he gets a good therapist to fix his personality.

Fake outrage. Riots are either always okay or always wrong for BOTH parties.
The democrats can't celebrate their riots while condemning the capitol riot.

So we agree that Trump's bringing the protesters to DC led to the capitol riot, yet Trump committed no indictable crime.

He committed an impeachable crime for which he is guilty. We know that because Senate Republicans acquitted him based on a baseless technicality, complete ignoring the overwhelming evidence.

The jury is still out on whether Trump committed a crime or whether he will face a criminal court.

Pardon the pun.

The Times reports, "The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a last-ditch attempt by former President Donald J. Trump to shield his financial records, issuing a brief, unsigned order that ended Mr. Trump’s bitter 18-month battle to stop prosecutors in Manhattan from poring over his tax returns as they investigate possible financial crimes.

"The court’s order was a decisive defeat for Mr. Trump, who had gone to extraordinary lengths to keep his tax returns and related documents secret, taking his case to the Supreme Court twice. There were no dissents noted.

"The ruling is a big victory for the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., a Democrat. He will now have access to eight years’ worth of Mr. Trump’s personal and corporate tax returns, as well as other financial records that Mr. Vance’s investigators view as vital to their inquiry into whether the former president and his company manipulated property values to obtain bank loans and tax benefits."

Tard
He’s not president
He can’t be impeached
You people would try and hang a dead man just for vengeance which doesn’t make you feel better anyway because you don’t know how to feel better.

When you read the order the conclusion the Times made is a huge stretch of editorial opinion and not fact reporting

1. Trump was acquitted because the impeachment of a private citizen is unconstitutional, as I told you many times before.
2. If Trump committed ANY crime while in office the DOJ should indict him. The jury is not out, Trump has NOT been indicted.

IDIOT. You either live by the laws you create or you have no laws at all. The Constitution provides for the removal of a president and other public officers from office with barring from holding office again an option subsequent to that.

  • Trump was not president.
  • Trump held no public office.
  • You can't remove a private citizen from office he doesn't hold.
  • If you can't do that, you can't apply any other sanctions the Constitution holds FOR PUBLIC OFFICERS.
  • You can't just pick and chose the parts of the law you want and apply them the way you wish against just the people you want to get just because you don't like them.
Had Nancy not held the impeachment up for two weeks hoping to wait until the Dems controlled the Senate, Trump would have still been in office and might have been convicted!

BLAME YOUR STUPID BITCH.

Trump in a statement on Monday blasted the Supreme Court over a decision opening the door for the Manhattan district attorney to obtain his tax returns and other financial records.

"The Supreme Court never should have let this 'fishing expedition' happen, but they did," Trump said. "This is something which has never happened to a President before, it is all Democrat-inspired in a totally Democrat location, New York City and State."

Strange how Trump always blames someone else for his troubles. He broke decades of tradition by refusing to divulge his tax returns, first as a Presidential candidate then as President. The New York Times discovered that Trump paid a total of $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

That said, according to Trump, his troubles are the fault of the Supreme Court and the Democrats. What the hell do his supporters see in him? We don't know, and they aren't talking.

Trump unbelievably continued his habitual, baseless claims that the election was stolen from him. He loves to use lies, exaggeration, and superlatives to support his case.

"This investigation is a continuation of the greatest political Witch Hunt in the history of our Country. These are attacks by Democrats willing to do anything to stop the almost 75 (74.2) million people (the most votes, by far, ever gotten by a sitting president) who voted for me in the election—an election which many people, and experts, feel that I won. I agree!" Trump said.

Trump also has a convenient memory. He overlooked the fact that the other guy outvoted him by seven million.

We must all bear in mind that Trump isn't speaking to us. He is speaking to his cult. They believe everything he says.

Unfortunately. 74.2 million uninformed voters is a dangerous thing, particularly for the Republican Party.
