Texas Handgun Carry Bill Moves Forward, ‘US Constitution is My Permit’

Texas Handgun Carry Bill Moves Forward, ‘US Constitution is My Permit’

The Texas Senate on Wednesday passed a bill that would remove permit requirements for people to carry handguns in public, moving the bill one step closer to becoming law.

The Texas Senate version of the bill, passed on a party-line vote, according to FOX 4, differs slightly from similar legislation already passed by the state’s House. That means the chambers will have to resolve their differences or the House will have to simply adopt the Senate bill, though it is expected to eventually make it to Gov. Greg Abbott‘s desk.

“People are already allowed to have constitutional carry for long guns in the state of Texas. This just adds handguns, someone has to still go through a background check when they buy a handgun,” Abbott said of the bill, according to FOX 4.

Republican supporters of the bill noted that the bill does not change the requirements for people to buy handguns. It only removes the permit requirements to carry guns in public.
This has got stupid written all over it. But you've got to hand it to conservatives. When they march, they march in lock step since Texas would be the sixth state this year following Iowa, Tennessee, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming to pass a law to give citizens a right to carry a handgun without a permit, or training, or a proficiency test.
Hopefully dozens more jump on the bandwagon :)
It might have been nice if the Texas Legislature consulted police officers to find out how they would feel about people without permits carry firearms in cars that the police officers stop on roads and highways for crimes like suspected road rage.
What they think is irrelevant.
It certainly is relevant since it's common for legislators to engage in fact-finding and hold hearings to get input prior to making new laws. In fact, laws are generally enacted to address problems, and there was NO problem here because there was already a procedure in place for people who wanted to legally open carry or conceal carry a handgun. In fact, it was already legal for Texans to carry long guns without a permit. So, like I said, there was no problem here. This legislation is just being pushed through as a big FU to people and groups who would like to tighten gun laws to cut down in all the multiple victim shootings going on all across the country which seems worse now than ever.

Regardless, passing this law makes a mockery of conservatives' claims of being a friend to the police because it will almost certainly result in even more shootings (and deaths) when armed drivers and passengers who may be high or intoxicated are confronted by police officers who pull them over for some kind of traffic infraction or the suspicion that a driver is operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

Their opinion doesnt matter. Its a constitutional issue.
Lets ask women what they think about males beating them in their sports? Or ask mothers what they think about boys pissing beside their 4 year old daughter at the primary school? Or ask tax payers about where their tax money should go?

Your post makes no sense since the Constitution doesn't provide an answer for every issue. That's why we have laws.

Who cares? Missouri has had this for years & now St. Louis has the highest murder rate.
This is about permits for law abiding citizens. Not gangs and their illegally purchased guns. So, im not sure why you even mentioned that. Do you?
Missouri is a shall issue constitutional carry state no permits required. I tried to buy a gun in Texas & they won't even sell to me because I am from Missouri.

Correct, however the blue shitholes within the state have effectively banned law-abiding citizens from even owning, much less carrying, firearms. Hence the sky-high, third world levels of homicide in the places run by DemoKKKrats. Good job!

It should certainly keep the cops polite, unlike they way they act in places run by people like you.

Indeed it does. I have to assume you dont know what it is or what it says, to say something as ignorant as that.
It defines rights that cant be taken away, it sets a strict limit of federal power and it then says all other issues are left up to the states.
I like how you completely dodged how i threw your ridiculous idea in the trash lol

Too bad Reagan didn't believe in that in California when he saw the scary black men carrying guns.

It is too bad. Now that California is run by people like you, crime, violence, homelessness, and despair are of course rampant.

Yup. Democrats took a beautiful state and turned it into a shithole.

Let's see these people who support these everybody-can-open-carry react when ALL PEOPLE take advantage of this "right." You touch me and I kill you. Is this what we want in these United States? Especially now that we have had a dramatic increase in private citizens thinking that they can just stop people on the street and question them, even having the unmitigated gall to assume that the person whom they stopped had some obligation to submit to such questioning? Men touching women?

Go on. Buck the question. Is this what you want for the United States of America? You stop a black American on the street or a woman of any race, or an LGBtQ person, and interfere with them, threat the, block them from going their way. touch them, you get your balls or head blasted off? Under the rules that you want, each one of these people would be justified in blowing you away. DO YOU REALLY WANT THIS? Dammit. I DON'T.

The places where constitutional carry has been enacted have seen no increases in crime. Typically, there's a decrease. It's places run by people like you, where law abiding citizens are disarmed and the criminals are not, where the vast majority of murders happen.

You're ignorant about what constitutional carry means. If you think it's a license to commit crimes, then the education system has failed you miserably.

Either that, or you're just lying again.
