Teachers Freaking Out Over Trump

So you’re good with religious indoctrination in schools. Gotcha.

I'm on record here saying I most definitely am not. I do not want non-Christians teaching Christian things. The best stance is TRUE tolerance.

But suddenly you don't like agendas. "You" meaning the Left.

I never said it did, and their budget is not inflated. All that fed money gets fed to the schools. Apparently, you do not understand school funding. I think the Education Department needs to be drastically cut, but it does some good. Eliminating the entire program is throwing the baby out with the bath water.

People making big big bucks in DC, telling us plebes in the trenches how to do it.

We might need A FEW of these. We don't need buildings full of these.

I guarantee you none of them could survive my job for five days running.

Maybe your school is not, but gutting the federal program will not improve that. Now, will it? You have a special ed problem. Most schools do not. I have three grandchildren that are or were special education students at one point.

I don't know the last time you were in a school, or when your grandchildren were in special ed. It has changed drastically. 15 years ago and before, special ed was modifications, accommodations, and maybe one special classroom per building.

Today it's kids destroying property, running off school grounds, attacking violently students and staff. It's kids screeching and melting down daily. It's kids who are clearly not all right, not even being on anyone's "list" because the "list" is too long.

Schools feel like day treatment centers because they are.

It's factual home schooled children outperform public educated children. Time and time again
Let's see your facts on that. You have fallen for the home-school mafia propaganda. Homeschooled children should be much better academically, but the sad part is they are not. Many homeschooling parents are unqualified to oversee their children's education and use it as a dodge to shelter their children from public schools. I am fighting a battle right now with my son who has my granddaughter using a public school on-line curriculum. Her academic education is doing great, but a more socially awkward child you have never seen. My wife and I are intervening in the most subtle ways possible to prevent her from becoming a hermit and never leaving their house like her parents have become. They are both disabled vets and have a reason for their behavior. My grandson from my daughter has Asperger's and is a senior in high school this year and is doing well because his public school teachers really seem to care about him and work on his issues. Homeschooling can be great, but sometimes it destroys the end product if not monitored by professional educators.

You’re on record, yet you support Republicans who want to put religious indoctrination in public schools?

I know that. The federal government should have nothing to do with curriculum or instruction. If you remember, that is how it used to be when I first started teaching in the 90s. The federal government should ensure states are doing the job of educating their students. That didn't happen before during the 1970s when I went to school.

I graduated in a class of nearly 600 in 1978. How many special ed students do you think we had? Exactly zero. No such thing. they all attended special schools for the mentally and physically handicapped. The IDEA stopped that. Guess who enforces the IDEA?

We need special schools back. And a lot, LOT more of them.

Yes, we do.

I am TIRED of seeing the fear in my gen ed students' eyes that no one addresses. It's all "well, he had a bad day" after a kid gets violent. Yes. Violent.

The tales these kids tell in 10-15 years is gonna be something. "I saw a kid punch my teacher".

"I saw a kid throw a chair at another kid"

And on, and on, and on they stories will go.

All because we love our Victims in Woke America

I was in my grandson's classroom and spoke to his industrial arts teachers last week. When I was teaching, I attended every one of his IEP meetings because I was a teacher and administrator for the first 8 years of his school. He was out of class for most of his 7th grade year and his entire 8th grade year. Please don't tell me I don't know.

I respect you as a teacher and don't want to insult your feelings, but I have tons more experience in education than anyone else on this forum.

The Ten Commandments in public schools for starters.

Indoctrination or not?

Inappropriate and unnecessary. Not something Christians with the right intent would say is a good idea. It's political grandstanding, nothing more. In this context. In church, it's something different.

You don't.

I started teaching in 1993. Every single one of those years in the classroom.

Also....it seems kids aren't "taken out of school" anymore. Read up on violent students and classroom evacuations.

Why do you think I'm up like this at this time of night, unable to sleep?

We are not okay. Our workplace is an unsafe, toxic mess. I told a coworker today it feels "abusive", and it does.

It’s not grandstanding. It got pushed into law by Republicans and Trump supports it.

You can say you’re not in favor of it, but your vote says otherwise. Own it.

If you hate it so much, why don’t you just quit?

Starting at the junior high School level It's pretty foolish not to have a security staff empowered to physically act on behalf of the teachers with impunity. These aren't kids anymore, a good percentage of them gain adult stature and strength by the eighth grade and are capable of doing enormous harm. The local high school here in my town has two city police officers on staff all the time and they are armed. Up until that happened The police were having to visit three or four times a week en masse anyway. Now it's quiet.
They only understand force.

You might be able to reason with them after that but if the force isn't present you will simply be laughed at and perhaps even beaten.

Sweetheart, it's only the Totalitarian Left that believes you must adhere to EVERY SINGLE ONE of your candidates' beliefs or you are committing HERESY.

I'm not part of your cult. I'm proudly not part of your cult

Nobody on the left is allowed to do any kind of independent thinking without being attacked and ostracized.
