Typically, it is the bleeding heart liberals that believe their kids are too perfect to need discipline. Discipline, properly applied when needed, is not a bad thing. I suppose that you think two adolescents fighting should be expelled? I disagree, a couple of judiciously applied swats with no expulsion is much more effective--a teacher cannot teach if the student isn't there. Re: teachers applying the discipline--it was the principal with a witness in every case in my day.

I've got the highest respect for your opinion, Gracie, and I am glad we can agree to disagree, but I find it hard to trust the care of my child to a school without allowing them to discipline within reason when needed. I raised my child, I am sure, by the same standards as you. My child was never the recipient of corporal punishment, but if it was warranted, I would not have objected. I believe the reason it never came up was because we raised our child correctly. In the case of the tape or shaving, a line has to be drawn.

A “furious” Las Vegas mom is calling for the resignation of a substitute teacher who allegedly taped a face mask to her 9-year-old son after he forgot to wear it in class.

“He was very upset. He was crying. He was humiliated,” the anonymous parent told told local Fox outlet KVVU-TV of the incident, which occurred at Reedom Elementary School in Mountain’s Edge. Since July, the Clark County School District has required masks in schools, regardless of age or COVID-19 vaccination status.

The sticky situation reportedly began after the fourth-grader neglected to don his face cover after getting up to grab a drink of water.

However, instead of simply telling him to put it back on, the female teacher “pulled him up in front of the classroom” and “taped the mask across the top of his face,” the distraught mother claimed, adding that this caused the boy’s classmates to burst out laughing. The educator also reportedly slapped a second layer of adhesive to the top of the boy’s forehead.

Substitute teachers are just that, substitutes. The parent cannot get the teacher to resign because the teacher is not an employee of the school. I suppose the parent can try to get the sub's teaching license revoked, but that is not likely. A warning would be most likely. The sub can teach anywhere she/he wants in the state as long as she/he has a teaching license issued by the state. The school or even the district can ban this teacher, that's all.

It occurs to me that as a kid, I never would have let a teacher assault and humiliate me like this, and if they tried to do that to my kid, he never would have sat for it and would have punched that stupid teacher right in the face.

I'd love to see the teacher try to report a kid for refusing to get taped up!

If the district doesn't hire her because she committed this act, that effectively takes her out of the profession. If the parent files charges, the certification certainly can be revoked by the state.

I wouldn't have thought a teacher would be allowed to physically make a child do something, let alone a substitute teacher.

It's not a teachers place to force a child to do something or physically make them do it. If they don't like something they go to the principal and let them handle it or talk to the child's parents.

Even when spanking was acceptable in school I got spanked once and when my grandma found out she went into the principal and had him by the hair "if someone is going to beat that boys ass it's going to be me but it sure as hell ain't gonna be you". And I never got touched again.

Exactly. When I was a kid growing up, that was a common thing; if your parents found out you got it at school, you were in even deeper trouble at home! But then, my parents used to tell me that when THEY were kids, you were not allowed to talk at the dinner table unless spoken to first. If you did and went too far, the old man got his belt out and laid it on the table. And if you still didn't settle down, you eventually got it right across the mouth with the buckle. These people were not fooling around.

I really think this is at the heart of the problem with today's society: I grew up with a level head on my shoulders and respect for people---- progressive-lefties have no respect for people other than those they approve, that is plainly seen in how they talk to us here, about Trump and his supporters--- they are way too used to getting their own way on everything, and look---- just those people going to the Capitol to protest the election, what were they labeled as? Domestic terrorists seeking to overthrow the country! But you can bet if they thought Trump had stolen the election and the media all censored them telling them to shut up and were goofy, that they'd all be right at the Capitol themselves, except that, this time, they, the government and media would be promoting it as a "protected constitutional event vital to the survival of our democracy."

So yeah, when someone calls me a dangerous, vile piece of dirt to be stamped out, treats people like criminals just for expressing views and opinions that are as old and normal as apple pie while promoting social, political, economic, and moral decay and upheaval as the future for our country, yes, people tend to fight back, take it serious, and start returning like for like purely as a matter of self-defense.

But just remember, the Left started it all, but it is a fight they cannot win and won't win because at some point, the rest of the country is going to be forced to cross a line that once crossed, there is no going back, and there will be hell to pay. Literally.

I didn't ask anything about 200 years ago, I asked about this website, since you made a comment specifically about this website. I don't care who started what long before USMB existed or was even a thought someone had. I was pointing out that when you say progressives-lefties here speak with no respect, that sort of speech is and has been common from both the political right and left since I've been here, and I joined this site in 2009.

Whether the source of that sort of disrespect lies with the political left, or with the anonymity of the internet, or some other factor(s), when you use this site as an example to show how the left is disrespectful, it comes off as silly. The right is just as disrespectful on USMB. It may be a little less prevalent among those who don't identify with either the right or left.

Oh, and yes, the right says the same sorts of things about the left as you describe here: they are a threat, they aren't even American, they are evil for expressing their views, etc.
