Still, if Trump paid very little or nothing at all in taxes, it would look bad for him politically heading into a tight race on Election Day, they said. But it doesn’t mean he did anything wrong because he could have been using the U.S. tax code to his advantage, they added.

Maybe we should fix the tax code and not allow accelerated depreciation? But the fact is very rich people pay so much in other taxes that income tax is not a primary focus. Trump employs 1000s, pays heavy RE taxes and has not taken a salary as POTUS, so he essentially gave $1.6mil in after tax dollars to the US Gov't.

Not to be confused with tax evasion, which is illegal, tax avoidance is entirely legal, even if many view it as unfair.

The democrats had a super majority from 209 -2011 in the senate.....they could have easily ended the loopholes, so the rich can't circumvent the process....why did they not do this....it wouldn't be that most of the billionaires are democrats....naaaaaaaaaaaaaah

If tramp didn't pay taxes how could he give 1.6 million to the US Gov. We don't need him to give to charities, HE NEEDS TO PAY HIS Taxes!!

and we just have his say so, SO I DOUBT IT. I suggest he did tax evasion and he done it for decades.

No the democrats didn't have a super maj in either the senate for the house for very long.

Did President Obama have “total control” of Congress? Yes, for 4 entire months. And it was during that very small time window that Obamacare was passed in the Senate with 60 all-Democratic votes.

There are institutions that will decide if he paid the taxes that were owed. That's not the story here. The story is the millions and millions of dollars lost because of his lack of business prowess. The story is millions of dollars owed to as of yet unknown organizations. The story is every venture he's lent his name to has died. All the while, gaming the system to bleed as much money from them as he could before they went belly up. Two bankrupted and shuttered casinos. A "university" that scammed people out of hard earned money. Bottom line here is that he isn't the fantastic, successful businessman he claims to be. His entire persona is a lie. That's the story here. We knew Donald Trump was a fraud. Now, it's in writing. :)

They had it for 2 years......so why didn't it get done.....this is what I hear from democrats for decades like the worst thing, the rich aren't paying enough.....they could have eliminated all the tax breaks, why didn't they?

Ummmm....he declined to take a salary for his role as President. That’s $400k per year. Do you know how to do basic multiplication?

I agree with you that his business failures are a huge part of the story.

But let’s not lose sight that Trump runs the agency tasked with determining whether he owes them tens of millions of dollars that he doesn’t really have.

All he has to do is a sell a building. How do you know how much cash he has? He doesn't take a salary as President.

Then you don't really know how licensing and branding works......
The less involved he is in a project, the better it tends to do.

:)

He backed into the Presidency. A terrible opposition candidate, a large bloc of voters staying home, and a last minute assist from the then FBI director. Still, a victory of less than 78,000 votes across three states made the difference. 47 electoral votes on the swing that could have gone to the other candidate. Trump needs those enough of those independents who carried him over the finish line the last time. A story coming out like this isn't going to help.

He wasn't deemed an expert in anything. He was a reality TV show host. Passed off as a successful and profitable businessman. And with the publication of this information, we now know it to be a complete lie. The man is a terrible businessman. no wonder no lending institution in the United States will touch him. If he didn't pay the taxes he was supposed to...he will...eventually. That's not the story here.

Backed into 306 electoral votes?

That is what you call "backed in"? My goodness. And someone with zero political experience. Your post is very dishonest. He is actually a very good businessman.

Can you avail yourself of loopholes to avoid paying federal taxes?

Could you earn $400,000 salary and pay nothing?

He didn't earn it. He is taking $0....basically giving $1.6mil back to the Gov't.
