Take a Look At What Passes for "Art" in 2024 USA

“Is there mastery in Malevich's "Black Square"? Is there talent? Is there a sense of beauty? No. There's a masterful publicity stunt. There is a desire to “blow up”, to cause a scandal, to shock the viewer. From this point of view Malevich is as much an “artist” as Herostratus is an architect, and Chikatilo, excuse me, is a surgeon.
I can't help but remember my favorite for puffing up cretins, Andy Warhol. He once called his studio and instructed a photographer to put a certain image on silk, after which he arrived and on the finished canvas ...peed.
The fabric with traces of Warhol's urine was sold in New York for 10 million dollars! “Connoisseurs of art” know what Warhol took part in the creation of this “masterpiece”, but re-buy it, literally snatching it out of each other's hands! Businessmen who collect obvious junk in their galleries know what they are doing.
After all, there are critics who will “put” a deep meaning under this garbage and give their assessments as generally accepted truths. And enterprising connoisseurs with tight wallets will pay solid money for THIS, remembering Dali's confession that “the world is full of cretins”, and after some time they will be able to resell the “masterpiece” three times more expensive. What a great deception...”
- Andrei Konchalovsky

Here's someone in 2024 who isn't aware that it's just dirty money laundered at auctions through art.

This is what a supposedly dignified art museum currently displays on its walls, Video is from 11 days ago (February 8, 2024). >>
Sad that we have sunk this low.

But not all is lost. They are still artists producing the REAL thing. They may not have paintings in big city art museums, but they are here, and their paintings are viewable on line.
Here's an example >> Bert Emanuel

Does anyone else think art should be worthless now with the advent of AI?
Here's an example of what you can do with your old graphics and some AI reimagining and reinterpreting it:

that's pretty. but AI i is cheating.
not necessarily, it's a skill still requiring creativity via choices like any graphic art on the computer it requires knowledge and collection of resources. Which replaced much hand art work used in advertising and print ads etc

So it IS cheating? then- you making excuses for it-
you idiots that don't know how to do anything for yourselves--- defend it? draw it ? the skill is in real life- a person who put it down? its sort of like men in woman sports?
show me YOUR art? FAKE?

A miniscule amount of taxes goes to protect and maintain the Arts.

How much ?
2 years ago, California passed Prop 28 allocating one $ BILLION/year to the arts. And that's just one state. That an awful lot of affordable housing that could have been built, in state replete with homelessness 7 tent cities.

Actually, as an artist myself, I applaud the idea of spending something on the arts, but a Billion/yr ain't "minisicule".

Millions of people stay in Motel 6s every year. If paintings were displayed there, they would be seen by millions of people, and far more than if hung in any gallery or museum.

Is that pic done by a human and then fancied up by ai? Or did ai totally create it?
What worrys me is that ai will take over real human art. Even now the ai pictures are showing up everywhere.

I wouldn't pay a dime for AI. Sickens me just to think about it.
Well like a dummy I read the last page of this thread first. Then, went back to page one. And the museum video. OMG
I had to shut the video off- I was getting to MAD-- at the junk hanging on the walls.
I'd run outta that place as fast as i could. :)

the base it trained on was my 3d render, painstaking to design those it's easier with AI now. Furthermore the output still needed many trained passes and tweeks by mouse (not hand) which esthetic eye and patience and steady hand is still required and is a difference between end results.

lol. I cant understand that. but anyways it's pretty. What ever you did to it- good job!

It is the Museum of Contemporary Art. That means modern art.

I scanned through the video. Some was odd. Most of it was interesting.

Not every art fan wants Norman Rockwell. Modern art often expresses profound and worthy messages.
Such as?
