He was a VIOLENT criminal WHOSE EX called the cops to say that he was stalking her--he was armed with a knife and had previously attacked her before and having domestic abuse charges on him including ones from May I believe. Most would assume that he had planned to use the knife on her. For starters, they have handed off all evidence to federal authorities who will make that determination. The Officer is on paid leave pending the review as is customary in these cases. Given the potential race issues this will take about two weeks to complete as they will get video evidence from where ever they can before making the final decisions. They will get departmental training records as well.

I would know, 26 years as an LEO and a supervisor. This will be documented to the point of ridiculousness to protect not only the officer but the department as well.

I am told that body camera footage has the man threatening to shoot officers with a gun and was refusing to drop the knife, which is why they attempted to tase him, TWICE. They had no option once he failed to follow commands and was, from the officers perspective, obtaining the gun he had just threatened to use on them.
