In the court case of Wong Kim Ark, the people who argued he could not be a citizen on our soil, because his parents owed allegiance to the Chinese Emperor for their lifetime.

The court ruled that because Ark was born on our soil, and parents were under our jurisdiction....our laws when their son was born here, even with lifetime allegiance to their emperor, their son, was born a citizen.
