Only two states in the entire country voted unanimously for their presidential pick at the county level. It says quite a bit about the choices people are making for themselves and for the country when you look at those states and their results. I've never lived in Oklahoma, so I can't comment, but I grew up in Massachusetts and would never move back. You can cherry pick all day long to get the result you want. The bottom line is the "red" states are the ones that keep growing and the "blue" states are mainly the ones that keep losing people. Housing costs per square foot in Norman, OK, are dramatically lower than California with Oklahoma averaging around $160-$180/sq ft statewide versus California's $400+ (closer to $450-$500+ in many areas), meaning California can be 2-3 times more expensive. People pay what things are worth. A house at the beach costs way more than a house in the desert. Why? People want to live there. If costs drove people out there would be no demand at high prices. There is demand to live in California at those prices, but you have to give away land in Norman. Why? It sucks.

Whether a place is "great" or a "shit hole" is a matter of one's perception, is it not? When did you live in Oklahoma? How are you qualified to decide it's a "shit hole?" I have a friend who's from Oklahoma and he likes it there and has talked about moving back multiple times. He only came to Vegas because of his job.

Who is deciding that Massachusetts is Xanadu? The same people who think boys can put on a dress, identify as a girl, compete in their sports and blow them away pretending there's no physical difference between him and them, like they allow in Massachusetts? Sounds so incredibly educated, don't they.

This is all in the eye of the beholder. The fact of the matter is people's actions speak louder than your words and stats and their actions are clear. Eight out of the top ten states for growth in 2025 were either solidly Republican or Republican leaning states and that's been the pattern for years. The fact is they aren't buying into your high taxed, overly regulated, culturally rotten, high urban crime version of Utopia.

In the meantime, the "red" states will keep growing and prospering and yours will keep floundering, but at least you'll have your statistics and condescending world view to help you sleep at night.
