Starbucks CEO roasted as ‘out of touch’ over defense of $9 coffee: ‘Affordable premium experience’

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol is coming under fire for suggesting buying a nearly $10 cup of coffee is all about the experience.

When asked by The Wall Street Journal about his company’s pricey menu, Niccol, 51, said that “People believe ‘this is a really affordable premium experience.’” “What we’re seeing is that people want to have a special experience, and regardless of what your income level is, in some cases, a $9 experience does feel like you’re splurging,” he said.

”What that means is that we have to make it worthwhile.” Those comments have not been well received, as many online slammed the CEO as being out of touch with the average consumer, who is already feeling the increased cost of living. One online user wrote: “This guy needs to live on the median U.S. income for a year and buy his own lattes every day.” Another said, “These people live in a different reality.”

If somebody's willing to pay that much for a cup of coffee and he can charge that much for a cup of coffee and stay in business, why not?

Ain't Capitalism great! :)

That said.....For $9.00 their burnt swill better come with a handy. ;)
Libs have been instructed to hate Starbucks now that its relocating its HQ from super liberal Seattle for the far more conservative Tennessee

And taking billions of dollars in taxes and thousands or workers away from Seattle and their crazy new socialist mayor

Not a coffee drinker myself, but $9 doesn’t seem that outrageous if it really is a high end cup of coffee

I’ll spend $10-$15 for a good, quality premium cigar. It’s worth it if it’s a good product and it’s in a price range where almost anyone can afford it a few times a week

I’d have to defer to the coffee drinkers to decide if this coffee from Starbucks falls into that category

Like so many things, Starbucks success isn’t about the product; it’s about the logo.

branding carries an idea that they’re getting something “better” than the generic coffee shop on the corner. That’s why you can’t order a Large coffee there… it’s a Venti, or some such thing. It’s all marketing and psycho-babble bullshit designed to sell their products for three times their actual value.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess you’re not their target customer

Are you also in favor of workers deciding not to organize if they don't to pay dues or follow union work rules?
They have the right to not apply for a job that has a union

Problem solved

Why would an employer want to pay them a lesser wage? It would seem that an employee without loyalty to Big Labor would be more valuable, not less.
What's wrong with giving workers a voice?

I worked most of my career as skilled union labor and got screwed regularly by the union. Unions are just a middleman that does what they claim the employer is doing. I advanced my skills to the point that I became more valuable to the company and became a company employee at nearly double the compensation and benefits. A persons skills and value are what will ultimately improve their lot---not whining that the company is unfair. Life is not fair.
