Starbucks CEO roasted as ‘out of touch’ over defense of $9 coffee: ‘Affordable premium experience’

Me neither...good Ole keurig does it just fine for alot less. Always searching for a good new brand to try. Any suggestions?

Like so many things, Starbucks success isn’t about the product; it’s about the logo.

branding carries an idea that they’re getting something “better” than the generic coffee shop on the corner. That’s why you can’t order a Large coffee there… it’s a Venti, or some such thing. It’s all marketing and psycho-babble bullshit designed to sell their products for three times their actual value.

It's about selling a product to people who are buying stuff they don't want with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like.

Man, I'm glad I'm out of there!

Yep. I’m not a coffee drinker. Been in a Starbucks once - NY Thruway rest area. I wasn’t impressed. Chipotle is overly spicy so far as I’m concerned.

If you want me to frequent your establishment give me better products at reasonable prices, not gimmicks or marketing.

Yeah, the only Starbucks I ever went into lost my business when they didn't know the word 'large'

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol is coming under fire for suggesting buying a nearly $10 cup of coffee is all about the experience.

When asked by The Wall Street Journal about his company’s pricey menu, Niccol, 51, said that “People believe ‘this is a really affordable premium experience.’” “What we’re seeing is that people want to have a special experience, and regardless of what your income level is, in some cases, a $9 experience does feel like you’re splurging,” he said.

”What that means is that we have to make it worthwhile.” Those comments have not been well received, as many online slammed the CEO as being out of touch with the average consumer, who is already feeling the increased cost of living. One online user wrote: “This guy needs to live on the median U.S. income for a year and buy his own lattes every day.” Another said, “These people live in a different reality.”

If somebody's willing to pay that much for a cup of coffee and he can charge that much for a cup of coffee and stay in business, why not?

Ain't Capitalism great! :)

That said.....For $9.00 their burnt swill better come with a handy. ;)
We use Costa Coffee, Starbucks is minging. If they can sell coffee for $9, a fool and their money are soon parted.

I get an organic espresso roast from Costco, and it comes in at maybe $7 LB. If I want to carry coffee with me, I make it at home with my great RO water.

Starbucks is largely unionized nowadays, and the union work rules require customers to use the official "venti viddi, vicci" sizes and they aren't allowed to respond to requests for small medium and large.

Coffee is very addictive and not a healthy beverage.

Last time I ever had anything at a Starbucks, I remember, we were doing a cutover and we all would go out for a break or lunch or something and a few times, we ended up at Starbucks. I remember getting a large Mocha Latte Frappuccino or something and it was something like $5.50. This was around 1996 or 1997. It was a crazy price for coffee but I never had a mocha latte and wanted to try it.

I remember drinking it and being totally hopped up on major caffeine and feeling like someone had given me a shot of adrenaline.

At that point I ask Siri “Whafs Italian for ‘Cancel my order’.” and walk out.
