Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol is coming under fire for suggesting buying a nearly $10 cup of coffee is all about the experience.

When asked by The Wall Street Journal about his company’s pricey menu, Niccol, 51, said that “People believe ‘this is a really affordable premium experience.’” “What we’re seeing is that people want to have a special experience, and regardless of what your income level is, in some cases, a $9 experience does feel like you’re splurging,” he said.

”What that means is that we have to make it worthwhile.” Those comments have not been well received, as many online slammed the CEO as being out of touch with the average consumer, who is already feeling the increased cost of living. One online user wrote: “This guy needs to live on the median U.S. income for a year and buy his own lattes every day.” Another said, “These people live in a different reality.”

If somebody's willing to pay that much for a cup of coffee and he can charge that much for a cup of coffee and stay in business, why not?

Ain't Capitalism great! :)

That said.....For $9.00 their burnt swill better come with a handy. ;)

Mr. Niccol knows where he is coming from. At his previous job at Chipolte, he was selling burritos at a premium price to Taco Bell and gave the whole thing a "snoot value" that made it money well spent for some people.

So he's basically saying, "Shut up and give me your money, slaves."

I know a couple who live in Minnesota. They're blended, two kids are hers and two kids are theirs. He was $30K in debt when I met him. They can't get married because she won't marry him unless she gets a big, lavish wedding, and her family can't pay for it. They threw an expensive "gender reveal" party when they announced her last pregnancy.

He works 2+ jobs.

And she stops at the coffee place and gets a $10 drink.

These are Charbucks' customers. The type of ignorant slaves that Charbucks loves.

"Affordable premium experience", my ass.

Poor life choices has nothing to do with a company making money off the rubes who make poor life choices. ;)

What are they supposed to do, ask for your credit score before they will sell you a cup of their burnt swill?

Its more affordable than wasting one's money on sports betting apps and online casinos. Yeah, Starbucks are grifters taking advantage of people who are soft in the head. But they aren't the only ones, and not the worst.

It is not unusual at all for adult drinking establishment to have highballs that sell for $9 or more. The $9 coffee is for special occasions when you want to give yourself (or a companion) a special treat. "Affordable" is up to the individual customer, and is no one else's business.

In MN, Caribou is the place you go for 9 buck coffee.

We actually buy their beans and French Press it at home.
.

Yeah, we have Caribou in SD. That's where this woman bought the $10 drink.

Are the beans good?

Coffee is very addictive and not a healthy beverage.

Their beans are my favorite. Bit expensive, but not so bad per cup if brewed at home.
Caribou started in Edina, MN. It's why they win the coffee wars here over Starbucks.

I was told that one of the eateries in town (Moms) is now charging $3.25 for a cup of coffee w/one refill if they don't order something else so they can get the old farts out of there that come in at daylight, swill coffee, and run their yaps till 1000 every day.

I remember when we had a Hardees in town and the old farts would congregate there....My dad was one of them.

I saw him parked there one morning and went in to ask him something and when I walked into the area where they were all sitting it reminded me of of an old west saloon in the movies. Everyone stopped talking and just stared at me....Creepy as hell.

After that I swore I'd never become one of them. When Hardees closed they all moved to Moms (the above eatery) and did the same thing.
