Those were the documents that Trump’s lawyers (who lacked security clearances) were allowed to turn over to the FBI in response to a subpoena. The FBI didn’t know about them before they were handed over.

Trump’s lawyers also told investigators that all of the records that had come from the White House were stored in one location — a Mar-a-Lago storage room. The subpoena was for any document with classified markings. The DoJ does not know, and doesn’t have to know, what documents Trump had that fit that description.

But Trump is legally required to comply with the subpoena fully.
