Kids are more open to things adults can't feel any more. Stephen Kind knows this, himself. They are more innocent..still open to magical hints and intuitions and once they reach a certain age and that youth is gone and they turn into adults....it gets buried and forever gone. Except in exceptional people. Animals are the same way..but they never "grow up" and lose that magical ability to sense.
