The energy that a solar farm receives from the sun is free. The energy a wind farm gets from the wind is free. The cost is in building and maintenance. For solar, the cost of maintenance is minimal. Also low for wind farms. Construction costs for both are far lower than for coal and natural gas plants. And very much lower than for a nuclear plant. The land for both wind and solar can be, and often are, used to produce other things, particularly agriculture.
