So, why can't we solve our problems?

Once elected our leaders continue to campaign for the next election by refusing to produce laws and mandates that will address them. People have to be forced to do the right thing. However, this would result in the 'unelection' of those who write those needed laws next time around.

So, we suffer from two hammer blows, an irresponsible government and an irresponsible citizenry. The "blind leading the blind" and both ending up in the ditch.

Welcome to politics today….The minute they get there it’s a dick measuring contest.

not sure I like mandates or being forced to do the right thing,, more so since the right thing varies between people,,

some of us think the right thing is to protect children from adult sexual content and using children as sex toys,, others think that is perfectly OK,,

The fundamental problem? Politicians can be bought with campaign contributions.

Democrats work to change that system, Republicans work to retain it.

The solution? Vote for the good guys here.
I don't think our 'leaders' have enough general knowledge to address our problems. They depend on 'experts', who usually have agendas that aren't helpful.

Absolutely, unfortunately the people loose.
To the other half of the OP, why can't the people do their part to solve these problems. after all it's the people who cause most of the problems.

Why can't we solve our problems? Are you serious? Have you read the shit posted here? From assholes on both sides of the political spectrum. Add to that the fact that the people elected to office don't really want to solve any problems and prefer a divided electorate and you wind up with the dumpster fire we've got.

Our government leaders change their minds on what the right solution is. The following is just one example.

In the past city leaders said levees were the way to go to protect the city from floods. Now they say levees are a bad thing and there should be buyouts where the floods happen.

Sad but true.

Might as well. Levee failures are common and getting worse with the recent severe flooding. Off topic but I've always thought that levees should be constantly enlarged, reinforced, with planted trees, roads, and areas that expand recreational shoreline.

They also built the levees to close to the riverbanks. If you're going to build levees, build them further away from the riverbanks.

We can... easily... but if we have no problems the elected class shrinks in power... and so they will never completely fix anything...
