3. Ukraine is not a "big ally" of the US. They are a needy vassal state if anything.
4. NATO had our backs in AFG until Xiden pulled the rug out from under them.

Am I wrong in my assertion that geo-politics is still mired in the imperialist pursuit of territory?

I thought the purpose of the UN after WW2 was to establish borders and end territorial wars, yet we've been faced with endless proxy wars ever since.

1. Yeah. "always" is too strong, but the Russia-Crimea connection predated the Ukraine connection. Russia assumed Ukraine would remain "part" of Russia. Khrushchev grew up in the area of the present conflict.

2. Putin wants Ukraine to be politically and militarily alligned with Russia, regardless of what the maj of Ukrainians want. But the US and Nato could turn his armor into Saddam's burnt army if they chose.

3. Ukraine is a buffer state for the Baltic Republics and Poland, both of which are pretty affluent free market republics.
