Well sure. Trump is a businessman with a flare for showmanship, but Reagan was a polished actor and public speaker. Reagan memorized a script, while Trump wings it best off the cuff. Trump puts on a good show but Reagan was the show.


If they try, they will be drummed out of the party.


I grew up a democrat in a blue city. My mom held elected democrat office. Democrats sought justice and equality for the little man. Then as I left my teens, I slowly, unconsciously swung over to being more and more conservative. Today, the GOP is more like what the DNC was back in the 1970s. And time has proven me right.

I stand by my claim that of all presidents Ronald Reagan tops all of them. Trump still has time to try to improve.

Reagan reversed the Carter disaster. Today Trump is reversing the Biden disaster.

The only problem with Reagan is he didn't pursue the Iran issue with enough gusto, but he gets a pass from me considering his success with ending the cold war, tearing down the Berlin Wall and spurring the beginning of the end of the USSR. Not to mention his moves against Gaddafi and the Grenada success. He had his faults as well with Ollie North and the Iran Contra affair.

I voted for Reagan twice, because I was 18 and didn't know any better.

Since then, I have to evaluate the damage he's done.

1) He made "Borrow and Spend" acceptable by cutting taxes on the rich. If you want someone to blame for our 30 trillion deficit, thank Reagan.

2) He gave the green light to union-busting that has demolished the middle class in this country.

3) He ramped up the policy of funding "Freedom Fighters" to annoy Soviet allied regimes, like the Mujahedin in Afghanistan (which later morphed into the Taliban and Al Qaeda) and the Contras in Nicaragua (which made big money by flooding our streets with crack cocaine).

4) He engaged in the kind of reckless deregulation that led to the 1990 S&L Crisis and eventually the 2008 crash.

But he was a damned sight better than Trump. The problem is, of course, that the policies he pursued would be blasphemy to the Orange Cult.

• He gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants.
• He appointed moderates to the Supreme Court
• He supported the Brady Bill
• He raised taxes when it was clear that Supply Side wasn't working (which is why Bush had to do his "Read my Lips" pledge that he broke.

So why is he well-regarded today by Republicans?

Because he's the only Republican in the last 50 years who wasn't voted out of office (Trump, Bush, Ford), put us into a recession at the end of the term (Trump, Bush-43, Bush-41, Ford, Nixon), or was impeached (Trump, Nixon).

I did not count all of the claims made by the above poster and he did not count them either. Notice he did not offer a bit of proof. Not any of them.

Guess what. He reported he voted and supported Ragan twice as I had as well.

There was no
Iran Contra affair. This was a way the Media told their story to ruin Reagan.

Iran story is really the Israel Iran story.

The Contra story really is the Saudi Arabia story.

The USSR collapsed because the constituent republics, including Russia, decided they no longer wanted to be part of it.

Not everything. Communism of that style always fails because because people like stuff. No one wants to stand in line all day for a potato. Communists collapse under their own weight.
