The closest is a 3 hour drive, and the only one in my state, so why no go the rest of the way by car, since it is about a 90% chance it is in the wrong direction to where I intend to go.It is called providing rail services to rural areas

My local airport is an hour away. My local train station is 3 hours away. A train trip like I flew to Houston last summer will still take 5 times as long. Highways are a lot different than mag lev. People like senses of freedoms. Inside a vehicle is freedom. Although aggravation for slowdowns in traffic and anything related sucks. There are older cities that have built many public transportation systems, and we still see highway slowdowns in driving also. Upgrading existing track needs linear direction and a reduction of stops.They did that when they put in the interstate highways
High speed rail would not cut through major cities. They could just upgrade existing track.
