Because they believe Schumer made a back door deal with the 8 democrats, so that he could maintain his own, curated public image of fighting against the ACA credit lapse, while actually doing the opposite.

They beiieve he convinced 8 democrats who are not up for reelection in 2026 to do his bidding, given the nonexistent risk of losing any of those 8 seats, in 2026.

They believe Schumer acted against the will of most of the democrat congresspeole, their party, and their constituency.

Chuck schumer asked democrats to go out on a limb with him, and they did. They were likely thinking that he must have some backup plan. Surely he wasn't stupid enough to expect to pressure the Republicans to reverse what they won, by cutting off federal welfare programs that Republicans largely oppose.

He had no plan B. He had no ladder. Nothing to save his fellow democrats when the inevitable sawing of the branch started.

Now they're p***** at chuck. Alexandria will likely primary him, and win easily. So this will all have been for nothing.

My question is was Alexandria clever enough to push Chuck into the shutdown, knowing that it would result in an inevitable loss for him, leaving his seat wide open for challenge?

It was a desperation tactic employed because the credits are set to expire in 7 weeks.

The credits were put in place during Covid because the country was shut down. That’s why they had an expiration date. The country is open. There’s no need for that specific need. If the democrats need to add more funding for failing Obozocare own it and try to get it in a spending bill instead of hiding behind the temporary covid spending.

Simply Failure to Achieve Goals, and some kind of punishment is the order of the day, in that disorganized party, out of power.

Republicans are misreading this as some kind of "victory" but that is short sided. Dems won BIG on the way this played out.

#1 They avoided Thune nuking the filibuster in the Senate.

#2 They gave voters a chance to speak last week and provide a sampling of the main issues that are going to drive next year's midterm election while the government was shut down and Trump was refusing to release food assistance funding to them.. Voters resoundingly screamed that Trump's sucky (and worsening) economy combined with rising health care costs are those main issues

#3 Dems forced Republicans to adopt and own any changes to healthcare that occur from this point forward. Either Republicans come up with their own plan to lower healthcare premiums within the next month and a half (which they can't and won't) or they extend the ACA's subsidies (which is what Dems demanded all along), or they let those subsidies expire, in which case premiums will skyrocket and doom Republican's midterm chances.
At any rate Republicans own the ACA now. What they do with it voters are waiting to see and they will remember it on election day next year.

So, by sometime next week the Epstein files will most likely will be all over the news complete with old photos of the pervy POTUS sitting around with half naked teenage girls on his lap against this backdrop of raging inflation, high unemployment, and an uncertain future of healthcare for tens of millions of Americans.
People are pissed...and they're not pissed at Democrats.
Republicans should enjoy their "victory" dance while it lasts, because it certainly isn't going to last long.
