It is not a defense it is an observation of how differently the Christian faith and Islam are treated. Why doesn't it matter if Christianity is insulted? Because the faith has grown since the 15 century, not so Islam. Not quite the same. The Congressional Democrats joined hands and sang "God Bless America" with Congressional Republicans in solidarity. They were all behind the President in his future effort to capture or kill those responsible. In the case of Benghazi, the GOP candidate (and the GOP propaganda wing, aka Faux News) couldn't wait until the smoke cleared before using the assault to attack the President.
