A definition of Socialism to debate if you want, some may disagree with this definition .

As for Socialism it is contrary to democracy due to it putting the power of the economy in the hands of a few. Those few tend to be the wealthy elite and those in government they control. It's why in the Soviet Union they had those who owned mansions and super sized yachts while others barely made it on crumbs.

I have a couple of 'socialist' views, one from Henry George, an American socialist, re having a Federal property tax. He proposed it for funding the entire govt. I just favor using it for funding the military, a national defense tax separate from other methods that require Bills and all the associated cramming, set asides, riders, and log rolling that goes on with those. The primary function of our armed forces is protecting our borders, i.e. real estate, after all, so it should provide the basic funding. Ditto for oil royalties, grazing fees, timber rights, and other fees and incomes from Federal lands.

Historically they are distinctions without a difference when it comes to Stalinism and Nazism for the average person forced to live under them.

National Review ran an article a long time ago comparing Nazi propaganda art with Soviet propaganda art, i.e. posters, films, statues, etc. They could have all been designed and made by the same artists. Himmler and Goebbels were both left wing Nazis early on, Strasserites, and friendly with Karl Radek for years. The article doesn't mention his associations with Himmler and Goebbels, but other sources do.

Later in his life he adopted a position that the Soviet government should be close to Germany. In 1934 he was interviewed by a German politician, at which both of them deplored the hostile drift of their respective governments, and Radek made a controversial remark: "There are some fine lads in the SA and SS."In 1936 he congratulated General Ernst Köstring on the day Germany occupied the Rhineland, along with Mikhail Tukhachevsky.
