yes it was! I left massachusetts during the misery of 1990. took the next plane to Sarasota. I was just lucky to have found a place to stay on Longboat Key for 75.00 a week.Well that was the depression era....and to think I once got to live a block from Sarasota Florida beach for 75.00 a week.

that was me as I was looking at a few places to rent as I was moving to Sarasota in 1990, I went to a home with a garage for rent. ughh, yech, I took the house a block from the beach instead for 75 a week.I wish I paid $1,000 a month. I live in a converted single car garage. It's $1,300 a month. I like it. It's small. I have only a kitchenette. But I have air conditioning, no carpet, a good sized yard, washer and dryer, pool, covered patio with an outdoor tv and it's in Beverly Hills.
I actually live in a garage...guy had a big 2-car that he never used after building a garage onto his house, so he turned the upstairs into an apartment. I love it.

Well, you should ask the people who are willing to pay so much to live there.
They might be able to give you an answer.
Well we are having a drought right now- and part of that is that we are having a wonderful winter- it was about 70 degrees and sunny here today.
And the people working in the Silicon Valley are making tons of money- and prefer vibrant San Francisco over sleepy Santa Clara.....lots of people with money flooding the market- rents- and home prices are skyrocketing.
The housing market in SFO is capitalism at work. Supply and demand.
No one has the "right' to live in the City.....if they cannot afford to do so.
