A date and time for what though? President Trump and Putin made it clear in their joint press conference that they agreed on more than they didn't agree. But that sticking points remained and would need to be worked out with the EU, NATO, the Ukraine.

There is no way they could provide a date or time for that to happen.

I am pretty sure Trump and Putin would not have said there was progress if there was no progress. I can't imagine that Putin doesn't want a way out of this mess so long as he can save face and say he got something out of it. I think Trump knows that and knows that something has to be part of whatever deal is made.

I think pretty much everybody wants a deal that is a win for them and ends the destruction and killing.

But the two of them cannot make a deal like that without involving the Ukraine, EU, NATO et al. They all know that too.

I don't think Putin does want out of the mess. He wants more of Ukraine and he's sticking to his guns until he gets everything he wanted. I read an article a while back that, other than selling some oil to India, the only thing left driving his economy is the war. If the war stops then his economy takes an even bigger dive and won't turn around if sanctions are still on and he knows that if he ends the war, sanctions will remain.

You could be right. And you could be expressing your negative feelings about Putin. I have too much old style reporter in me to attempt to speculate what Trump and Putin talked about in those three hours or to automatically distrust what they said in the joint press conference.

I do think they are wise to keep quiet about it until the deal can be completed if it is possible to complete one. Otherwise both sides will speculate and postulate and put a lot of disinformation out about that. Of course that will happen anyway as we see on this thread. But it will be based on personal prejudices without any basis in fact.

It's essentially a convergence of Russia, USA, Ukraine and NATO that has to convene and resolve this issue in one way or another. If it can be found, fine, but America will not be dragged in by NATO or the Ukraine to a futile war as long as Trump is POTUS,
