From what I have read Russia puts roughly 70% of it's military budget into both determent & first strike nuclear capability including their SSBM's(Submerged Ship Ballistic Missile). The remaining 30% of Russia's defense budget goes into conventional(non nuclear) military capability. "IF" this is true it may be the primary reason WHY the Russian conventional military forces did not perform as well as expected in the Ukraine.

Trying to NATOize countries that border Russia was a serious mistake in my opinion like I preferred the neutral states bordering Russia strategy. Too late now as the cat's out of the bag & it looks like we as humanity cannot get that cat back into the bag. This can only go two ways, statesmanship & an end to current hostilities in eastern Europa, or the situation in eastern Europa heats up to the boiling point. Just pray for peace as advances in weapons technology has made another world war a sure fire loser for all of humanity.

No, I’m not MAD. I just understand that Russia, and the West have very different philosophies as it pertains to conducting warfare. And that the old MAD trope is really only dearly clung to by the West. New technologies have changed the playing field. Russias infrastructure has been since the Cold War, and to this day hardened to withstand nuclear strikes. At least to a greater extent than the West. Their subway tunnels have blast doors for instance. That doesn’t mean they won’t get hit. It does mean however that while the West just assumed all players assumed a nuclear exchange was unwinnable; Russia has been hardening the motherland to withstand a nuclear exchange.

That hinges on the different philosophical definitions of “winning”. If they can survive the strike, and retain enough military capability, and civilian population; they could theoretically relocate their assets to less contaminated areas. To include weaker, bordering nations that haven’t been hit. Like I said they havent just assumed an exchange is not survivable, or unwinnable. They have strategized how to harden themselves so that they could theoretically do just that. What has the US done to make our country survivable in the event of a nuclear strike? Not much outside of preserving the elites, and the continuity of government. The population is screwed. I bet no one on this board has a clue without googling where their nearest fall out shelters are. If they even exist. What their given capacity is. And how long it would take for them to get there. Russia is far better prepped than the US in general to withstand a nuclear strike. The USin general isn’t really prepped at all because of the lazy trope of MAD. So we haven’t even bothered to try.
