So when Russian oil is mostly banded from the international market, supply goes down forcing prices up. However the rise in the price is only partially due to the Russian ban. Oil prices started rising over a year before the ban.

In 2021 when Biden took office, Americans started coming out of their shells due to Covid restrictions. Driving miles increased 11% over 2020 and airline traffic increased 85%. US factory output increased 10%. Electric power usage increased 7%. All this meant a big increase in demand for gasoline and oil. Yet for various reason, increases in the supply of oil and gasoline were slow coming. The major reason being both OPEC and Russia made major cuts in production in 2020 but were slow to increase production in 2021 and production was still at pre-Pandemic levels when the Russian oil ban started in March 2022.

Let's be clear exactly what we are discussing.
The Keystone XL pipeline extension, was initially designed to transport the planet’s dirtiest fossil fuel, tar sands oil, to market. It is an expansion of the company’s existing Keystone Pipeline System, which has been operating since 2010. The XL extension was expected to transport 830,000 barrels of Alberta tar sands oil per day to refineries on the Gulf Coast of Texas. Once at these refineries, the tar sands oil would be processed to create a light crude which can be refined to produce gasoline. However, that gasoline would not end up at US gas pumps because the oil would be shipped overseas to oil refineries, mostly in Europe who would be willing to pay the higher price for this oil. Since refining tar sands oil yields over 50% by-products, the impact on the world oil supply and gasoline prices is negligible.

In short, the amount oil produced from the XL that could be used to produce gasoline, only about .4% of the world production is not worth the environmental damage and health risks of processing which is considerable. It would make no difference at all in what we are paying at the pump.

1. To quote the moronic Xiden admin "oil supply is global", so it really doesn't matter where the oil ends up, it would just have to be bought somewhere else at a higher price. That higher price is a windfall profit to our enemies instead of the US, simply moronic.

2. So an additional 830,000 bpd of KeystoneXL oil, no matter where it ends up, would lower the price of US oil and gas. Its called the "Law of Supply and Demand" for a reason. Increase supply and the price goes down, duh.

3. NOT having KeystoneXL simply means that the 830,000 bpd of oil will be bought somewhere else, like Russia, Iran, Venezuela, or elsewhere at a higher price, meaning that we are subsidizing our enemies "windfall profits" to buy more weapons, its moronic.
