Republican Senator wants a 7 day work week

Glenn Grothman, Wisconsin GOP Senator, Fights For A Seven-Day Workweek
Of course! Can't have those damn workers taking breaks to put that cash in their bosses pockets can we! Hey while we are at it we should just give the bosses a whip as well! Set up some slave shacks on site.

Wisconsin state Sen. Glenn Grothman (R) is attempting to roll back one of the state's progressive labor laws, arguing that workers should be allowed to work without a day off if they so choose.

"Right now in Wisconsin, you're not supposed to work seven days in a row, which is a little ridiculous because all sorts of people want to work seven days a week," he told The Huffington Post in an interview.

fucking retard, he's fighting for freedom to work, not force you to work
This doesn't mean that workers get to take off once every seven days; an employee could work for up to 12 consecutive days "if the days of rest fall on the first and last days of the 2 week period."

you left this off....

That's b/c hp was quoting the current law. Here's the unedited part you just tried to pass off as some kind of gotcha;

Wisconsin is one of the few states in the nation where businesses "must provide employees with at least one period consisting of 24 consecutive hours of rest in each calendar week." This doesn't mean that workers get to take off once every seven days; an employee could work for up to 12 consecutive days "if the days of rest fall on the first and last days of the 2 week period."

Better luck next time

BUT

Thanks for reading the link

right and if he were to rollback things then there would either be zero days off OR it would remain the same with the option to work those 7 days....

Kinda dumb there needs to be a law about this in the first place.

Man you republicans are gullible.Alright each one of you go in and tell your boss you are only working 3 days this week not 5 and that's just the way its going to work...give me a fucking break. Capitalist swine will exploit the hell out of this law and we ALL know it.

Wait, what? :eusa_eh:

The article says that Grothman is trying to give people the freedom to work seven days in a row if they choose. If the employee wants to work seven days in a row and an employer wants to work seven days in a row, why should an employee be denied the freedom to work?

Ignoring the fact that people should be free to do as they choose as long as they are not directly hurting anyone else, it's not as if working seven days in a row is a big deal. I do it all the time. Back when I was in college, I would work at least forty hours a week studying and going to classes and another thirty doing other jobs and responsibilities. One semester I worked a full time job while doing school and other responsibilites. When you get into ninety hours a week that is tough, but I did it for four months straight. Heck, I've worked a hundred and ten hours in a single week. Working seven days in a row is a yawn.

That law gets repealed it just gives the bosses the right to work their workers even harder for even more days in a row. Say you want a day off well tough shit boss has you down for 7 in a row you don't work you get fired...you see it one way I see how it would be used.Typical of republicans they are of course using the "freedom" buzz word to make it sound OK.

Because this is what happens in the other 49 states?

Not really. Why would people quit? Not a lot of jobs out there right now. So they would shut up do the job and take the bullshit because they and the boss both know its to damn hard to find another job right now.Looking at this idiots past bills its really no surprise that he would come up with this crap and seeing the retard you have running Wisconsin right now it wouldn't shock me if it gets passed.

There's plenty of jobs out there right now and lots of people working. There isn't much, however, for Nazi scumbags.
Waaaaa go get your diaper changed little hater tard.

Such as?

Does anybody posting here live in the real world. The constant stereotypes and hypotheticals accomplish nothing, and the ubiquitous canonization of all workers who aren't bosses is getting so old. The biggest employers of workers is small business. Most small business owners(and I am one) already work seven days a week and work much longer and harder than their employees. And both my wife and I have worked many times for no money in order that our employees could continue to have a job. Small business owners across the country do the same thing and don't ask for any special recognition but do get their backs up when they are demonized as money grubbing heartless slave drivers.

Who the hell needs a law to work seven days a week. Hell just do it, I guarantee there won't be any bureaucrats coming by on a weekend to check on you.

I think senators should work 7 days a week until they get the problems that they created fixed. I could support that.

you are wrong.

you can work as much as you want for your business but you can not require your employee to help you in the case of emergency - if there is a law of this type around - they can sue you and you will lose everything.
You live n a state where there is no such laws therefore you do not have that problem.

that being said I think the laws limiting the amount of required hours spent on a job should have the place.
becasue if it does not exist - it becomes dangerous. Deadly even.
Not for the employees, BTW. Contrary to the stupid tale of the ignoramuses, at the end of XX century and in XXI century the most overworked are the highest professionals in this country ( including the CEOs so hated by the lazy scumbags as OP is).

Overworked CEO does not cause any clear damage to the people he is working for ( except lost revenue, most probably), but overworked physicians will cause the death of the patient.
Most of you don't know this, but until early 2000s there were NO LIMITS in the hours of the work week of the resident physicians. They are limited now to 80 ( sic!!!) hours per week and not more than 36 hours in a row.
I don't know if any of you would like to be taken care of by somebody who has just finished his/her 24 hour shift and did not have any sleep :)
But that happens all the time.

You might want to read about how the unlimited work week for resident physicians ended up to be mere 80 hours per week:

P.S. I fell asleep at the traffic light while driving home after 36 hours on call several times. Once I started to drive on the red light with a police car next to me in the next line. Needless to say that the police officer had the eyes of the size of saucepans when he approached my car. And then he realized I was in scrubs.
he escorted me to my home ( it was the next traffic light).
And no, I did not get a ticket :D

The law prohibits working 7 days a week even if the employee wants to or needs to. When I have a big project I work 7 days a week. Usually 12 hours a day.

Forcing an employee to do anything like this is flat wrong. It's as wrong to make someone take time off as it is to make them work.

Actually, he's advocating for choice, i.e., freedom.

From your source:

He's proposing legislation that "would allow an employee to voluntarily choose to work without one day of rest in seven,"
Please take note of the underlined word.

Now don't you feel a little butthurt over not comprehending what YOUR own source stated?
Or, are you just being disingenuous willingly? Either way you're not looking too good right now.

That is a point well taken about certain jobs where other peoples lives are in your hands, and I would never ask someone to work overtime who didn't want to work overtime. The restaurant business is a grind where you have to do what you have to do and in the fishing business you have to git it when they are there even if it it means several days with very little sleep.

But you know one point never brought up is that some people like work. Some people en,joy the hours nd the action, heck some people enjoy their job. Hope there continues to be freedom for them
