I'm not of a mind to object to raising the age for which one is allowed to vote or to buy a gun. If the age required be moved to 21 years-old, fine, but if not, that's okay too.

It's very clear to me that the development of mental maturity and acuity is not a function of age, although its diminution often is. I would prefer to seem implemented a markedly more rigorous means of measuring and establish one's mental maturity/acuity level for gun ownership and voting. The Founders were not of a mind to extend the vote to people who'd not demonstrated they had a productive economic interest in the nation. In the Founders' days, that meant owning land, quite literally because the economy was agrarian.

Obviously, the modern day analogue to having such an interest isn't necessarily that one own land, so land ownership would not today be a sound proxy for showing one deserves to vote. Today, we dwell in an information economy, thus one's possession and mastery of knowledge is the reasonable analogue to owning land in the 18th century.

For shotguns, rifles, and their respective ammunition the age to purchase is 18.

We are going the other way.

The voting age will be lowered if it's moved at all.

The age to buy a handgun will stay at 21. The age to buy a long gun will be raised.

It will generally become more difficult to buy and own firearms in this nation. It's time.

I completely agree, although lefties wont.

Solution is middle ground. Leave purchase age at 18, but make purchase conditional. For example.

Every kid have their high school transcript that is basically a record of grades and accomplishments in high school, along with records about their health and other problems. If there is any red flag, you cant buy gun, not at 18, not at 21, not ever until passing some kind of evaluation.
