The two mysticism-realm American films Willow and Lady in the Water introduce us to a portrait of shimmering magic and fantasy set amidst a world challenged by the forces of malicious evil.

Willow
presents the story of an affable dwarf named Willow who enlists the help of an incredible wandering swordsman named Madmartigan to tackle the evil dominion of a ruthless queen with the help of some unlikely sprites and warriors.

Lady in the Water
presents the story of a modern-day American man who encounters a haunting strange water nymph who requires assistance in escaping the clutches of a sinister wolfish force of evil.

These two films represent a new trend in cinema focusing on netherworld metaphysics, perhaps reflecting a modern civilization focus on the spiritual wonders associated with an anti-Computer Age backlash.

Perhaps we can therefore use these two films to appreciate the pendulum of anti-technology metaphysics.

GOD: Man's obsession with technology has spurned a yearning for mystical revelation.
SATAN: It's why Hollywood (USA) makes films such as Ghost in the Machine.
GOD: If humanity used machines/technology more prudently, there would not be an 'imagination backlash.'
SATAN: Well, these films seem to address the psychiatric needs of modern civilization.
GOD: Human beings just might be rescued by their own sense of mortality.
SATAN: That makes sense, since technology has made humanity arrogant.
GOD: It's why Hollywood (USA) makes films such as Short Circuit.
SATAN: I wonder why humans did not find adequate inspiration in the Bible.
GOD: People need something 'extra' to complement religious prescriptions.
SATAN: The inner-fire of man is arguably dangerous.
