Lawmakers also are postponing a major fight over taxes, two embarrassing ethics cases and other political hot potatoes until angry and frustrated voters render their verdict in the Nov. 2 elections.

As a last necessary task before leaving, both the Senate and House passed a temporary spending measure needed to keep federal agencies operating when the new budget year starts.

"It would be one thing if you have a chance to pass something, then by all means have a vote," Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., said Wednesday. "But it was pretty clear that it was going to be mutually assured destruction."

One foot out the door, the House and Senate convened just long enough to vote on a "continuing resolution," a stopgap measure to keep the government in operating funds for the next two months and avoid a pre-election federal shutdown.

The Senate late Wednesday approved the temporary spending bill 69-30. The House followed suit several hours later with a 228-194 vote, sending it to Obama early Thursday.

"We may not agree on much, but I think, with rare exception, all 100 senators want to get out of here and get back to their states," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who is locked in a tough re-election fight against Republican Sharron Angle in Nevada.

They believe what the RepubliCONs have been telling them, that it's all because of liberals, or socialists. That it's because of Social Security (old age insurance) or Medicare.

The fact is that if our government stopped Corporations from taking our tax dollars there would be plenty of money for all our social programs.

For profit "health care companies" are the reason Medicare is in trouble. How much of our Medicare tax dollars end up as profit for these companies? Oh, that's right, the CEO's deserve 100 million dollars in compansation, because, because, um, because they say so!

The actual reason is that he put the two unnecessary, un-funded wars ON BUDGET! No more pretending we weren't borrowing and spending the money. Put it on budget and presto-chango we have a 1 1/2 trillion dollar deficit.

So the so called stimulus and the bail out of corporations, which Tea party was against, put them on the wrong side?

The Tea party was created because Americans want to cut the budget drastically. Not everyone in the Tea Party supported the wars.

I think you need to wake up brother. The Tea parties are trying to fix the problem. I would hope that all Democrats and Republicans would likewise be willing to realize we need to start cutting back spending, even if that means making necessary sacrifices. This isn't a right/left problem since everyone has been spending. Stop trying to blame one side and ignore the issue on your own.

Stop the Unconstitutional Spending and yes cut defense spending too. Let's stop wasting money we don't have. I don't care if you are right or left. As long as we agree to cut the spending, I'm more than willing to support it. Why do you care about it?

Tea Partiers rail against the TARP and the auto maker bailouts and the deficit. Tarp has already been almost completely paid back and will probably turn a profit. GM is again profitable (saving thousands of jobs, by the way) and will probably pay back it's loan next year.
