I seldom come to the top part of the board, but I have some words to share.
As I drove to work this morning, I heard a song from a band I really like.
I enjoyed about the first minute of the song until I listened to what he was
saying. The song is called B.Y.O.B. which I recently found out means Bring
Your Own Bullets. The artist is System of a Down. The lyrics are VERY\
straight forward and express the message of Anti-Bush/war loud and clear. It
reminded me a lot of War Pigs by Black Sabbath. Some of the lyrics go on
to say, ah hell, heres the whole song.
My god is of bible blood, with pointed ears.
Victorious Victorious steel,
can your spending kneel?
Marching forward hypocritic
and hypnotic computers,
you depend on our protection,
yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth!
Lalalalalalalalalala Ooooooh!
Everybody's going to the party
have a real good time,
dancing in the desert
blowing up the sunshine.
Kneeling roses
disappearing into Moses' dry mouth,
breaking into Fort Knox
stealing our intentions!
Every city gripped in oil
crying freedom!
Handed to obsoletion,
still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
Lalalalalalalalalalaa Ooooooh!
Everybody's going to the party
have a real good time,
dancing in the desert
blowing up the sunshine,
Everybody is going to the party
have a real good time
dancing in the desert
blowing up the sunshine!
Blast off! It's party time!
And we all live in a fascist nation!
Blast off! It's party time!
And where the fuck are you?!
Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor!
Kneeling roses
disappearing into Moses' dry mouth,

Everybody's going to the party
have a real good time,
dancing in the desert
blowing up the sunshine,

have a real good time,
dancing in the desert
blowing up the sun...
Where the fuck are you?!

The more I listened to the song,
the more I began to think about all of the negative anti-war/politician music
is circulating through the music industry today. Such artists as Green Day
with their new album American Idiot, or Bon Jovi with his album This left
feels right. Public Enemy and Eminem have even joined the war on Bush. Dont get me wrong, music has expressed so many times a Pro American
stance with entertainers like Bob Hope and Kid Rock, but the hippies are all
coming out of the wood works now. I remember a time when every house\
on my block had an American flag in the yard and Toby Keith in the cd player.
Thats all being traded in now for tie dyed shirts and The Dixie chicks. This all
saddens me as music is my very soul. It gives me that feeling in my stomach
that I used to get when my dad would say Im disappointed in you son.
With this being said, where is the music industry going? Who decides where it
goes? I wouldnt think (according to the election) that they would let the
public decide what airs on the radio, that would make sense. Ive always
been aware of how shady the music industry is, but this marks a new low for
me.
Why cant we have a music video channel that plays videos?
Why do overpaid exec's get to choose the music I want to hear on the radio? Why is anti-American music flooding our airwaves?
Bonus question, Why are a lot of these artist not originally American?
You know, I went over this rant in my head at lunch and it sounded so much
better. I know everyone has the freedom of speech (Hell I fought to defend their rights), but how far will it go? Is their goal to influence those "uneducated" Americans that don't care to learn the facts? My wife
is one of these people. She refused to vote this last election cause she really hates Bush (reason unknown to even her) and she didn't think it would be fair
to vote being so uneducated. On a side note she also hates Reagan for reasons she doesn't even know. I guess what I'm getting at is, that
eventually these people will listen to something. The next "John" to come
along might actually get elected.
Unfortunately, I have a terrible way with words, and can't type how I actually feel. I know many of you share some of these views, and I
would like some more input. What do you say?
