Now gee, what party do most unions contribute big bucks come election time? Billions on high speed rails very few will use. Who is it that pushes for public transportation all the time? If people wanted trains to nowhere, private industry would have invested in them a long time ago.

We had plenty of viable rail systems; you could go from New York City to Chicago entirely on interurbans, to St. Loius, etc. as well. What changed is the public demanded govt. build better roads for automobiles. So your belief that 'private industry' will run out and build stuff is just wrong. Tampa------> I like the way they glossed over how the government didn't have to build gas stations, but they do have to build charging stations. What was their retort again? Oh yeah, that all automakers are investing in electric vehicles now, and not internal combustion engines.

That is true, but they neglect to address why that is! GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS, AKA CAFE standards. The government is actually FORCING automakers to build electric vehicles or be fined through CAFE standards.

Notice, if you will, that automakers believe so much in their electric vehicles popularity, that they are NOT investing in the infrastructure to keep them on the road, lol. And, the government believes in these things so much, they are forced to give a large subsidy to get people to buy them.

All this is, is a "do as I say because I am the government and said for you to do so" policy. And then, with the Lefts anti nuclear stance, and the price of electric going up because of that amongst other government policies, the only significant cost savings for an electric vehicle is the fact that in most states, you pay no road taxes. How long is our fearless federal and state governments, going to allow that to continue, lol!

You have a point, but then the Model T. By the way, have you seen what it costs to replace a battery pack? For a Tesla, it is 10 grand! Once you do the math, the savings aren't as good as people think, because you still have to pay for the electric to replenish the vehicle. It is actually pretty close to a wash at 3 bucks a gallon, except that you save on road taxes, as of now. By my math, at 3 bucks a gallon, you can buy a little more than 3000 gallons of fuel, and at 27mls per gallon, you get 81,000 mls out of it. And then, you don't have to pay for electricity to recharge the car, nor does it take hours for a fuel stop. But hey, you people do you!
