Joe Biden: Making America Weak Again. First he auctions off our Strategic Oil Reserves, and now this.

"It is not at the level we would like to go into combat," a US defense official told The Wall Street Journal of the Pentagon's fast depleting stockpiles due to unprecedented defense aid to Ukraine, and stressed in particular that artillery ammunition is now "uncomfortably low".

What's more is that the shortfall will likely last into the future, given the norm is for new purchases and then manufacturers supplying the weapons to take a process of years.

"The U.S. has during the past six months supplied Ukraine with 16 U.S. rocket launchers, known as Himars, thousands of guns, drones, missiles and other equipment. Much of that, including ammunition, has come directly from U.S. inventory, depleting stockpiles intended for unexpected threats, defense officials say," the report spells out."

The Pentagon has traditionally planned to fight two wars simultaneously, one in Asia and one in Europe. The European foe was Russia after WWII so those stockpiles are being used for exactly what they were meant for. I say give Ukraine everything they need.

What we're sending Ukraine are not WW2-era "stockpiles." We're sending them the newest military technology we have, much of which has never been used on the battlefield.

Nor are we at war with Russia, and our strategic oil reserves have not been replenished.

Of course, we're sending the good stuff, as we should.

A Western democracy has been invaded by an authoritarian regime so there a war and it involves a country of interest to us. This is exactly the reason the oil reserves were created in the first place.

How so is Ukraine a "country of interest" to us, aside from the millions of Ukrainian dollars that enriched the Biden family? Was the US attacked on its own soil? Did we have soldiers or military bases stationed in Ukraine, and were they "invaded"? Was Ukraine a NATO member?

You might not want to spread yourself too thin, son. Others are watching.

The Pentagon has enough spares to fund wars in multiple theaters

Our weapons are being used as we intended
Kill an enemy threat

Only difference is that we are not pulling the trigger

Poland was not our ally in 1939 but if we had flexed our muscle and showed some resolve Hitler might have been detered.

I hope China is watching or are you also willing to let China take Taiwan without paying a price? Will Putin be content with Ukraine or would he like to recreate the USSR? Same question about China.

It's nothing new. FDR pulled brand new state-of-the-art M4A1 tanks right out of American armored divisions to give to the Brits. Those US divisions later went into battle using obsolete M-3 medium tanks while the British 8th Army was equipped with M-4s that replaced the ones from the US armored divisions that Monty destroyed in frontal attacks at El Alamein.

The US had no muscle to flex in 1939. Our army was one of the smallest and weakest in the world.

Your thinking in this era was different than that one. Americans were more levelheaded and responsible in a very bad time. Promises by politicians to not go to war were lies. WW 1 and WW 2.

I say go fuck yourself, and let Europe fight for Europe. And since it’s my money, and not yours; eat shit, and die slow…

I think a lot of this is a way the military is going around the back way to get funding.

For well over a decade, defense spending has largely been frozen. Barely enough for training and maintenance, any increases barely keep up with inflation.

But this gives the military a way to get rid of a lot of their ordinance that is likely close to the end of its shelf life. And if one reads the original article, they essentially want $500 million so they can replace what is being sent.

The Army said the military is now conducting “an ammunitions industrial base deep dive” to determine how to support Ukraine while protecting “our own supply needs.” The Army said it also asked Capitol Hill for $500 million a year in upgrade efforts for the Army’s ammunition plants. Meanwhile, the service is relying on existing contracts to increase production of ammunition, but it hasn’t signed new contracts to account for the higher amounts it will need to replenish its stocks, according to Army officials.

To be honest, it seems reasonable to me.

$46,000 for an M4 (Sherman) tank in WW2, and $4.35 million for an M1 Abrams tank today.

We had a pretty good deal back then.

Cost of WW2 weapons.
