Number 1 in Golf?

Anyone got a prediction on who will be #1 by the FED EX cup final? Who you rooting for? My top picks are Snediker, Bubba, and Johnson, but McElroy can't be counted out. Tigger, Pft!

I agree with Zack Johnson and think Adam Scott is a strong contender. I'll also put in a plug for Phil, hoping he can get his health on track.
Zach is playing good, but I was picking Dustin. McIlroy stomped Tigger by five shots in Dubai yesterday. Bubba's on top in Phoenix.

Right on, Woods got tromped even outside the U.S. The PGA has him at number 1 in the WORLD, but he sure can't prove that can he? Number 1 has-been maybe.

Bubba and McIlroy both choked. The baby walrus missed three short putts and still won.

There is no favoritism in the world or PGA golf rankings. It is purely based on results.

Tiger has been #1 for many years and deservedly so, for one main reason. He is the only golfer in the world who performs best under pressure.

When you follow tournaments week after week, you see a pattern. Any one of them can have a great round from time to time, or can string together a couple of 66's to lead a tournament, and when that happens they go into Sunday with the lead, then they do squat. Invariably the guy who's leading on Sunday morning will shoot a 72 or a 74, and he will only win if nobody else shoots a great round.

But it has not been that way for Tiger. If he is in the lead going into the final round, he wins much more often than not, and that sets him apart from everybody else, with the only partial exception being Phil Mickelson. Even Rory will be hanging on by Sunday afternoon in most of these cases.

The other guys? Adam Scott, Snedeker, Bubba, Johnson(s), all of them. They shoot great rounds of golf and win their share of tournaments, but every day is just another round. When the pressure is on, they are more likely to falter than to prevail.

Look at last Sunday; Bubba shot what? 74? Missed a 5-footer to lose. Not that that makes him a "loser," it just makes him like everybody else on Tour - except Tiger.

Personality be damned. He can do whatever the fuck he wants with his money and his private parts, but over the past 20 years he is the ONLY golfer who has shown that he has the "eye of the Tiger," the "heart of a champion," or whatever metaphor you want to use. He is The Man of golf.

And it's not because the networks like him (they LOVE him), or because some rating organization is playing favorites. He is the best fucking golfer on the planet - regardless of a few bad rounds here and there. His is always tweaking his swing and making adjustments, striving for perfection, and who can blame him for that? Whether or not he ever wins another Major, he will be the Man until somebody else steps up and does what he has done - win tournaments from the top spot - with consistency.

I have spoken.

Tigger was one of the worst players in Dubai last week. And the week before he shot 79 and missed the cut. Welcome to reality.

Couple of wannabe's on top at the Pro-Am so far this week. Manning is playing better golf than he did QB.

Walker won his third tournament already this season. Three for eight has only been done three other times. He's on fire.

Did you notice the last round? Up by SIX STROKES, then won by one. Luckily. Shot a 74 in the final round.

See my post above. Exhibit B.

Tiger doesn't appear to be as good as he once was, but keep in mind that golfers don't age like actual athletes do. He could be a Force for another dozen years, if he chooses to. Most likely, he is making some minor adjustments to his swing to get ready for Augusta National.

We'll see.

Duval was #1 in the world, and once shot a 59. Now he struggles to make the cuts.

Strange phenomenon, what? He was for a long time, "The best golfer never to have won a Major," then he wins the British Open and goes into the toilet.

Colossal head case.

Like Steve Blass.

It happens. But it doesn't change the fact that a golfer who keeps himself in reasonably good physical condition can be as good at 45 as he was at 25.

Tiger's only problem going forward (like Mickelson's) is that he makes so much fucking money on endorsements that golf becomes little more than a hobby.

Old Woodsie has finished his first round in a tournament this calendar year. For number 1 in the world, his was a lackluster performance. At least he finished in the top HALF of the leader board, but there are many dozens of players ranked below him that are currently ahead of him.

Ya... What a lackluster life is that of Tiger Woods. Prolly just shrugged his shoulders and slithered up the stairs of his Gulfstream with his tail between his legs and threw himself down on the leather couch inside where his GF was waiting there naked to give him a rub down and coo words of consolation..

Poor Tiger... :(

Walker is back to being mortal. Bubba is back in the saddle. Walker is still on top in the FED-EX cup. Dustin isn't far back. Tiger is 223 on the list. #1 in the world? Pft!

Doobie was awesome in the match play final. The commentators were falling out of their chairs.

Tigger is tied for 66th place this week at the Honda Classic, and barely made the cut. And this is his home course. This is what the PGA calls #1?
