The trade imbalance is a problem for the U.S. but also a problem for China. Workers are producing a lot of stuff and shipping it out cheap from China in an effort to curry favor with outsiders and keep their jobs, but they companies they work for are not really doing that well. China has more heavy industrial production, including electronic chip fabrication plants and silicon foundries, than the rest of the world has use for. Which is what causes a severe trade imbalance, which is not really beneficial for China in the long run either.
