NFL ratings down 10% YOY...why?

CTE?

Kneeling for the National Anthem?

make no mistake, CTE is going to be the end of the NFL....I'm just not sure how long it will take.

My good person(s)---------> Want to see if the boycott is working? Wait until the NBA season starts. You know they are going to follow suit with those in the NFL. If their ratings tank, then you know EXACTLY why it is happening.

And for those who think that all your "free speech" bullcrap will get people to change their minds, consider this------------> watch a game and LOOK in the stands for the NFL, and NBA. WHO buys the tickets!

The people boycotting are going to win, whether you like it or not! Why? Because when the players number 1 job is to entertain, we ALL enjoy it. But when they believe that bringing an INSULT into some of our homes is smart, then they start losing audience. If enough people leave, it will FORCE the networks to have a talk with the powers that be of the leagues. Football is in the biggest predicament, because most of us are smart enough that if we have to have it, we just watch college football. Their ratings are STEADY, as the NFLs are tanking.

Also, the owners get a huge chunk of their profits from merchandise. Guess what we aren't buying-)

I am here to tell you to your faces, the boycott will succeed, no matter how hard you try, because even according to you lefties......WE HAVE THE MONEY as far as family, disposable, income.

On a brighter note, I seen the mighty protestors of Pittsburgh, got their asses handed to them by the lowly Bears. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of arrogant protestors, if I do say so myself. Seems Seattle suffered the same fate. Good!

We are going to win the argument, watch and see! And if they let it go to long and create a "we are to big to fail" attitude, we may NEVER come back!

If you are talking about the Sunday games, it was a mixed bag. The ratings for the CBS game were up around 4% year over year. The CBS game had the Packers winning 27-24 in overtime. The NBC game turned out not be a great game. Trump's call for a boycott at this point is unknown.

The ratings have been done before this and I think there are 2 reasons.
1. A general slump in ratings for sports.
2. More streaming.

The athletes and the anthem are bothersome, but most of us use it for a chance to pee and get a beverage.

Well for many I think the pathetic display of the anthem is more than just bothersome. I think it encourages them to turn of NFL and find something else to watch. For instance when the Browns pulled off their kneeling stunt their first game, a coworker of mine (an ex Cleveland police officer) said he will never turn on another Browns game again. He even alerted his friends and family if they want to come over to watch the game, they better make different plans. His wife (a woman who awaited the safe return of her husband every day or night) was even more outraged.

Why? Good question. Why are ratings down for football... baseball....... basketball.... hockey.... even NASCAR? They're all down together. You can figure that out if you're into sociocultural studies and let us know what you come up with.

What you can't do is cherrypick one out of the bunch and plug in your own cherrypicked causation while ignoring how those other sports don't apply.

And by the way, already pointed out I think to you directly ---- this is SEPTEMBER. That means it's still baseball season, and it also means NFL games don't get meaningful for another two months at least.

That said --- no clue what "YOY" or "CTE" mean.

The only people watching baseball instead of football (usually) are the fans who have a contending team for the playoffs. Even still, those games don't usually run together.

Football has always been the most popular sport in America.....at least it was until now. And anybody that thinks this kneeling stunt won't have an effect on viewership or ratings is just kidding themselves.

Not true -- I'm still watching baseball and will be until the last game, and my team was eliminated eons ago. Football on the other hand is just barely under way. Again -- SEPTEMBER. Nobody is out of contention in September -- therefore no game is crucial.

Now you can venture any theory you like on why football, baseball, basketball, hockey and NASCAR are all tanking in ratings. I don't have one in particular so have at it. But the point is whatever tanking is going on is in no way exclusive to football and in no way exclusive to a short contemporary time window, and certainly can't be tied to a fantasy causation just because one wishes it to be so. NOR does it explain why it's happening across the board in every TV sport.

yeah baseball is so freaking boring that the only time i can watch it is LIVE or like you said when the playoffs come around and a certain team of mine i like is playing.
