Nothing is finished here. More work to do. I personally love changes, and hope you do as well! :)

Feedback here...
Will we be able to choose different skins? The new color scheme sucks. Very 20th century.

Don't know.. It's possible.. Go check the new "preferences" that users have under your profile.. Haven't had time to check that yet...

not seeing anything there to change skins

Being able to change skins would make it a bit better I think. Stark white irritates me eyes.

It's the light blues that are scientifically the WRONG choice for User Interfaces... Human eye is pretty "blue deficient" and changes greatly with ambient lighting.. Don't think anything is "engineered" anymore in User Interfaces... Just a bunch of graphic artists with pastel palletes.....

The best change of all?

Agreed, we could NOT move to HTTPS without upgrading the site.

That's not a change. Actually it's the only way I could be signed in at all.
. . mmm. . must be dependant on your browser then. I use firefox, and the old software was not secure on Firefox. I had to make an exception for my fire wall and ad blocker. It really bothered me. This site was the least secure thing I did on-line. It was some really shady crap till the upgrade.

Have you noticed an improvement in site speed/loading speed? The https/http2 switch should have improved the speed of page loads greatly.

A few years ago --- flacaltenn will remember this --- both Lucy Hamilton and I (and others) were getting errors where we'd get signed out, or taken to the page requested signed out. Some of us were using Firefox, some other browsers. It turned out that the redirects from links were sending to http instead of to https, and once you manually inserted the S it would work again. Right up to yesterday when the software changed, I would get linked to a USMB page where I would be signed out, until I put that S back in there.

I was just poking around looking for that thread but it must have been somebody else's thread that I joined and not one I started. I suspect it was a Lucy Hamilton thread but the site (or Oosie herself) won't let me see her profile.

EDIT-ON-EDIT ACTION: Through diligent search I have found that thread with the security issue error messages, from October of 2015 here,

. . . um. . . no.

None of that made any sense to me. I'm just not a techie. Sorry.

I do remember a while back there was a change in my security on my system, where because of this site, I have to sign in ever single time. Thankfully, my browser would remember me. Maybe I won't have to do that anymore? I should close the browser and see? Be back in a minute.

Yup. . . no longer have to sign in, or have my browser do the password thing anymore. New security upgrades.

Why the change?

Because USMB’s policy is if it ain’t broke fix it!

About a year ago, the USMB app on my iPad and iPhone stopped working. I wrote to them, but they never wrote back, so I just scrapped the application. I'm just guessing it no longer worked with the old system. Maybe when I get some time, I'll try it out again.

The only thing I really miss is the "edit" button. I screw up with typing a lot of times, and often go back to fix the errors. Now I have to be careful to proof read everything I wrote a couple of times before actually posting it.

What I really like is how fast the pages load. My Apple computer is 12 years old, and it took a little bit to load each page. If people posted videos or several videos on a page, it took forever.

We might look into doing this after we get this skin finished.

Especially the really LIGHT blues... Worst pick for Human Interfaces.... Light blues/greens fall into a deep gap in eye sensitivity. And even with good vision, create more strain.. If you do get to changing the skins -- Go BOLD...

How do we get more posts per page? I can only get 15 per page now.

It is much more relaxing and pleasant to read a lot of posts without having to click so often. I used to select 70 posts per page.

Long story short, the https (secure) address isn't new. It was already running that way.

It does sound like your sign-in issues are similar to what was going on then. I never sign out, even if I close my browser, unless something like that was going on.

Some browsers (like I ASSUME Firefox) had "safe browsing" options.. And with any of that set would TRY to redirect you to the SAME URL at the HTTPS prefix...
