Trump really wants to get this horrific bill passed before his 100 days are up so he can brag about it to his golf buddies. No matter the damage it will do to the American people.
MacArthur's proposal would allow states to seek waivers from certain federal requirements for health coverage. "The state must attest that its purpose is to reduce the cost of health care or increase the number of people with health care coverage," Gallo said.
They also could get a waiver from the rule that limits how much insurers can charge their sicker customers if they set up the high-risk pools.
Premiums could rise $140,510 more for those with metastatic cancer, $26,180 for rheumatoid arthritis, $18,440 for congestive heart failure, $17,060 for pregnancy and $4,270 for asthma, the study said.
The Republican bill also would cut Medicaid, which provides health coverage to the poor, elderly and disabled, by almost $840 billion over 10 years. It would stop New Jersey and other states from getting increased federal dollars to provide health care to new Medicaid recipients and give states a fixed sum for Medicaid rather than provide funding based on need.
The savings would fund tax cuts for wealthy Americans and corporations.
Just 17 percent of U.S. voters supported the Republican plan in a Quinnipiac University poll released last month, while 56 percent rejected it. And a Gallup poll released earlier this month said 55 percent of Americans supported the current health care law, the first time it was backed by a majority of respondents, while just 30 percent supported repealing and replacing the measure.
