'My health insurance is going up to $800 a month with a $15k deductible and that's the CHEAPEST PLAN"

Just so that people understand what the penalty was, it was originally $95 PER YEAR for an adult in 2014 raising to $695 PER YEAR in 2018.
That's not a typo, "per year". $695 a year or $57.92 a month. If you chose to not have health insurance (it would have cost you more). WW

So why didn't Biden and the democrats fix Obamacare with the mandate, and instead put the temporary subsidy?

We give oil companies "subsidies" they don't need, we spend exorbitant sums on the military industrial complex for weapons systems we don't need, yet Republicans lose their mind if the government will get involved with something that everyone needs someday, screaming, illogically, to keep government out of healthcare in favor of a broken system with runaway, often times unaffordable costs.

This is where our tax money should literally be going. I guess we will just have to wait for the Republican plan to come out now that they control all 3 branches of government.

Oh wait...

The ACA originally did include the mandate.

The GOP set the penalty toi $0 thereby removing a major fundings source thate was to fund subsidies.

The subsidies were permenant. You are talking about the COVID subsidy, which had to be temporary at the time because of the way the legislation was passed. The DEMs then lost control of one (or both) chambers of Congress and the GOP blocked making them permenant.

Similiar to how Trump's tax cuts were temporary and a later GOP Congress then made them permenant dispite the fact they added to the debt. The GOP got back in control of Congress, the DEMs didn't.

Why is the lady having kids if she cant afford to have them?

1. Thanks, Obama, for absolutely nothing.
2. Health Insurance costs are out of control.
3. There is no solution, Democrat, Republican, or Trumpian
4. The only solution is the free market. The costs have gotten so out of control, and out of the realm of reality, that the suggestion here is to not buy the policy to begin with. This "insurance" doesn't guarantee health, or longevity. We are all going to die regardless.
5. Pay cash instead
6. Think outside the box. Fly to foreign countries for healthcare if needed.

The system has failed, the politicians have failed. We are responsible for ourselves at this stage.

Obamacare Comedy Not a Laughing Matter – The Cornell Review

Republicans have done everything in their legislative power to destroy the Affordable Care Act, and you numbnuts cheered.

Pat yourselves on the back, morons.

You got what you wanted.

:laughing0301:

You all refused to get the government involved in healthcare solutions, and have fought against every change necessary for the ACA to work. This was something that would need yearly corrections, yet you fought hard for it to fail.

What have you offered in return? NADA.

How well does the government manage its own debt?

1) Democrats craft a healthcare plan, Republicans vow to destroy it.

2) Republicans spend over a decade working to achieve their goal.

3) Republicans close in on their goal, and the Trump cult say "See? Get government out of healthcare!"

4) Republicans offer nothing in return, have never offered any alternatives, and the cult cheers for more.

You forgot the part where Obamacare failed.

OK, run on mandatory ACA deduction of $$$ a month and see who votes for it.

Good argument. But some people don't need cars, so it is not "everyone" paying like for health insurance, some can avoid that cost.
People need healthcare more than they need cars in general. How many people do you know that never need access to a doctor?

Let me make it a bit less abstract.

My brother in-law was victim of a hit and run, this was pre ACA. Shattered his shoulder. He went to the ER were they put him in a sling and send him on his merry way because he was uninsured and he couldn't afford the reconstructive surgery required. Young man, late twenties. Shoulder didn't heal properly and he's been on disability ever since. Who pays for that you think?

There are plenty of countries that have much more government inserted into their healthcare. In fact, ALL develop nations have. ALL are cheaper. In fact, before ACA (the government) got involved with making sure everyone had insurance millions of Americans didn't have ANY insurance.

So it's not like the "free market" hasn't been tried, tested and felt wanting in the past.

And, they get rationing, denied procedures, and often fatal waits. In the case of the UK, they get medical personnel that can't speak English.

I live in Belgium. I have a mandatory health insurance fee. This on top of a higher tax rate then you have.

And there's literally not a single political party here, or anywhere else in Europe that I'm aware, all of whom have a similar system that wants to get away from it. The discussion always is a matter of how it'll be funded.

As with everything else, America's health care debate is completely poisoned by hyperpartisan, binary political ideology. And hidden amongst all the intellectual political dishonesty is that, by far, a major driver of American health care costs is the fact that Americans are so goddamn FAT.

As America continues to fade from being the world leader in so many things, I hope we can demonstrate to the world the profoundly destructive nature of partisan politics. It's killing us in real time. Maybe that will be the last valuable lesson we provide.

Remember, Mac voted for Obama.

You do realize that not being able to afford care is a form of rationing too right? And one that's a hell of a lot more strict. In fact, as I said I know both types of systems. And I know you guys wait too. And probably a lot more than I do. Want to test that proposition?

Maybe everyone should have access to Medicare?

How much does Belgium pay for its defense? Are they relying off US taxpayers?
