"Republicans in the Missouri legislature continue to reject reason, logic, the law, empathy and common sense regarding Medicaid, the federal-state program that provides health insurance for the poor. The state’s voters voted to expand Medicaid last August. The state’s constitution requires the state to provide Medicaid coverage for eligible Missourians. Expanding Medicaid would cost about $1.6 billion, according to the bill. Of that, only $103 million would come from the state’s general revenue.
Even Gov. Mike Parson’s budget provides for expanded Medicaid. He knows the money is there. If even money were tight, though, lawmakers still have no choice but to spend the cash, because the state constitution now requires coverage for eligible Missourians. They’re turning down billions of federal dollars. They’re ignoring voters. They’re violating the state constitution. Why? Because they hate the poor. There can be no other explanation."
This is a brilliant move by the Missouri GOP and no, it is not because they hate the poor -- it is because they love the working class and they love America...and the best way to help the poor stand up on their own two feet is by not giving them handouts like healthcare. Giving these people government healthcare would be worse than slavery; just look at the disaster Medicare is now; nobody wants it; no real Americans want it at least. The Republican healthcare plan is far superior [even if one doesn't exist yet] and as soon as they implement it; the voters of Missouri will soon forget about Medicare or any other Democrat plan.
As for going against what the voters wanted or violating that state's Constitution, so what? Just because the majority of voters voted for something or just because something is written on a piece of paper doesn't make it right...Years from now, these republicans who stood up against this bill will be seen as liberators and patriots; not corrupt politicians who hate the poor.
