Michigan United for Liberty, a group opposed to Whitmer's sweeping stay-at-home orders intended to combat the spread of coronavirus, is organizing an event at the Capitol from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. Thursday. While its leaders say they have discouraged violence and have not encouraged anyone to bring a firearm, they recognize that some have done so.

"We don’t want to be associated with that. We don’t agree with any violence at all," said Erica Pettinaro, a co-founder of the group, which was created in response to Whitmer's stay-at-home order and says on its website that it was formed to express its disagreement with "our unalienable rights being restricted or rescinded for any reason."

There were also indications from Michigan State Police that protesters who do not follow the governor's orders about maintaining a safe space between them and others, as some have done in past protests, could face legal citations."

"Based on previous demonstrations at the Capitol, it is evident that not all people voluntarily comply with the safety measures put in place," said state police spokeswoman Shanon Banner. "We will be prepared to take enforcement action, as necessary."

He was taken to court by the state who asked a judge to order Manke to close his doors. The judge refused. Then, Whitmer sicced the Department of Health on him. He refused to comply.


Finally, after the close of business on Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs made good on Whitmer’s threats.
