Losing the popular vote really brings down Trump's victory

I don't think it brings down Trump's victory one bit. He won the battleground states fair and square by appealing to the voters in those states. Who cares of California, heavily liberal state, came out in droves to vote against the anti-christ the media created for them to attack? It doesn't matter much.

Still, these were two terrible, flawed candidates. It was almost like a race not to lose. Trump came out on top and i'm hopeful for his prospects as president. I hope people come around and give him a chance but it looks like the wingers on the left are going to refuse to give him a fair shake, just like they accused the republicans of doing for the last 8 years.
Most people either don't understand or don't like the electoral college system so when their candidate wins the popular vote but loses the race, it seems unfair. This is understandable because every election except for the president, the majority rules. We've been taught as kids that the majority always rules. In congress and political circles, winning the popular vote is important otherwise you're being given permission to govern by the minority of voters which doesn't seem quite right to most people.
It didn't use to be that way for US senators.

Trump had fewer votes than Romney (how does that happen?). Trump lost the popular vote. It's impressive he won and all, but honestly it feels more like Hillary lost rather than Trump won.
The last time a republican idiot won the White House without the consent of the majority, we had 8 years of absolute disaster including the greatest attack on American soil in history, a total economic collapse, and the sending of thousands and thousands of our soldiers to die for nothing.

And now, they've done it again with even more gusto. God help us.

Libstains don't believe in God. Take a long walk on a short plank, fool.

It's not like it has never happened this way before. We go by the Electoral, not the popular vote. So the popular vote is moot.
It's happens 4 times.

If the two parties split at some point in the future which could happen, a Democrat, Socialist, Republican, and Conservator party, the House of Representatives would choose most of our presidents because no candidate would likely have 272 electoral votes. That would be when we dump the electoral college.
That is the kind of situation it is designed for; why would we dump it then?

I guess you would prefer a bloody civil war to settle the matter instead?
No I would like a constitutional amendment to abolish the electoral college in favor of a popular vote. I would like to feel that by some chance my vote for president might make a difference. Since I have never lived in a battleground state, voting for president has been a waste of time.

Since the founding fathers were afraid to give the people any voice in government, they would be ok with the House of Representatives selecting most of our presidents. However, I doubt that would fly today. People have kind of got use to having a voice in who governs them.

No, we'd change the number of electoral votes needed if there were more parties.

Funny story about mob rule in a democracy which always ends up being urban vs rural with urban winning. When I was living in Ontario all the urban morons decided to pressure the government to ban the spring bear hunt. Save the little Smoky the Bears. Hehehehe. Nothing happened the first year. Second year every one that was able to get out of Toronto went north to cottages and camping as per usual.

There had been no bear hunt for two springs and naturally there were a quizzillion bears. And with cubs. Ruh roh. The aggression levels were off the charts.

People were running from campsites having to sleep in their cars. Leaving their tents and their food behind for the bears. And cottagers couldn't go outside. No one could let a dog out. Miserable freaking vacations. Everyone was coming home to the city early after spending big bucks to go to some of these locations.

:lmao:

Whoopsies. Be careful what you ask for.

Can anyone name another presidential republic that doesn't use the popular vote to elect the president?
The UK does not elect their Queen. The Pm is not the President over there, lol, they dont have a President.

I think what bothers a lot people is that if you don't live in one of the half dozen or so battleground states, there's not much point in voting. Why bother to vote in Wyoming, California, Oklahoma, or Washington. Your vote may be counted but it's not going effect the outcome. This is the beauty of the electoral college. It makes most people's vote superfluous. I tried to explain our electoral college to a friend visiting from Europe. He said it sounds like a rigged system which of course it is.

It is not a rigged system since it is 1) spelled out for anyone to read in the CONSTITUTION, and 2) we have the corruption of Tamany Hall Democrat political machines bullwarked from spilling over into the whole nation.

If you dont like it, I am sure that Cuba will gladly take you in.
No, I just sign a petition every year to abolish the electoral college. It's probably a waste of time but no more so than voting for president.

To abolish the electoral college no one might as well bother voting again ever. Only D Presidents from the most populated urban centers. NYC, LA, SF, Atlanta, Chicago etc. No one else in the country would count.

Mob rule by liberal cities. This is what the Founding Fathers were determined to prevent. Of course Democrats want the Electoral College abolished. They could rule forever.

Ummm....whatever makes liberals feel better. Trump won the Presidency. Period. You think anyone will care in years to come what the exact numbers were....no - 'Trump was President'.

Trump won by turning out the vote where it counted, like in Floriduh and Pennsylvania.

The Math: Trump 2016 Would've Beaten Obama 2012

What good was it for Romney to win Texas by over a million votes and a 16% advantage, but narrowly lose the big swing states?

Also Trump would have had a much bigger vote total had he not been stabbed in the back by the Neocons and NeverTrumpers who can go rot in hell.

The popular vote means nothing. The electoral vote means everything and that the one Trump one.

President Elect Donald Trump will meet with douchebag in the WH today and I'd sure love to be a fly on that wall. Douchebag hates Trump and I doubt Trump thinks highly of the douchebag.

Can't wait for Jan and the backside of douchebag.

America rejected mob rule at its founding....
