Living Wage Bernie Pays His Employees $12/hr

Attacking Sanders is silly. The guy has no chance in hell at winning the presidency.
Nobody is attacking Bernie.
Just poking a stick in the eyes of the Bernimites and watching them dance to how he actually lives his life.

So you're trolling. Is that something you're proud of?
Not my fault Bernie refuses to pay his employees a living wage.

Nor is it your fault that you're a moron - but that doesn't mean you should be proud of it.
Someone who says you don't have to pay interns calls me a moron. Hilarious.

You really don't have any idea what you're talking about, do you?

FOX News just announced their calling all of their staff interns so they don't have to pay them.

You're just proving even more that you don't understand what an intern is.

Good on ol' Bern to pay his "interns". I have no problem with that, and I think that this thread is a little bit "nit-picky". I'm all for finding something to make the ol' socialist look bad, but this ain't it. It would be a stroke of beautiful irony if they all started picketing outside campaign headquarters asking for $15/hr, though.

That's $12 more an hour than what Ted Cruz pays his interns, and your title is misleading. You need to change the word "employees" to "interns."
If they draw a salary they are employees.

Some interns get paid, doofus.

Here's the real title to the article in the idiots OP.

Bernie “living wage” Sanders pays his interns only $12 an hour
If they get a salary, they are paying federal withholding and the whole nine yards. That's an employee. I don't know why he has to pay them when others apparently don't, you'd have to ask around.

You are an idiot. You really should do a little research before posting.

An internship is a job training for white-collar and professional careers.

Internships for professional careers are similar in some ways to apprenticeships for trade and vocational jobs, but the lack of standardisation and oversight leaves the term open to broad interpretation. Interns may be college or university students, high school students, or post-graduate adults. These positions may be paid or unpaid and are usually temporary.

only 37% of unpaid interns have job offers awaiting them at graduation compared to 60% of paid interns and 36% of students with no internship experience

Unpaid Internship Rules - FindLaw
Technically, paid interns are temporary employees and treated virtually the same as regular employees with respect to labor law.
your cut n paste in FULL CONTEXT.... :D

Six-Part Test for Unpaid Internships

The vast majority of interns working at for-profit organizations must be paid at least the minimum wage and any applicable overtime. Technically, paid interns are temporary employees and treated virtually the same as regular employees with respect to labor law. But you may legally hire an unpaid intern if the following six criteria are met:

  1. The internship, even though it includes actual operation of the facilities of the employer, is similar to training which would be given in an educational environment.
  2. The experience is for the benefit of the intern.
  3. The intern does not displace regular employees but works under close supervision of existing staff.
  4. The employer providing the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern and on occasion its operations may actually be impeded.
  5. There is no guarantee of a job at the conclusion of the internship.
  6. Both parties understand that the intern is not entitled to wages for the internship.

Cruz doesn't pay his interns. Rubio doesn't pay his interns. Clinton doesn't pay her interns. Trump doesn't pay his interns

And yet, we're supposed to be scandalized because Bernie only pays his 150% of minimum wage.

You'd have a great point if Rubio, Cruz,, et. al. were advocating a "living wage" as a major feature of their campaigns.

Bernie Sanders is one of the only Congressmen in Washington who pay their interns at all.

$12 an hour is a lot more of a "living wage" than "free coffee, and we'll validate your parking"

I'd work for a paying socialist, before I'd for a tightwad evangelical...

People are usually willing to donate their time for the good of the country. That is why many candidates have an easy time getting volunteers. Bernie supporters feel entitled and know nothing about giving, only taking. So, he had to pay them because they won't do a damn thing unless something is in it for them.

It should be about getting involved because you believe in something. For the takers, it's about someone making it worth their while. They work for Bernie because he pays them and has promised them more if he gets elected.

So typical of every leftist who rants about wages and taxing the rich. They pay their employees low wages and take every tax cut they can get.

Five Feet of Fury – Kathy Shaidle – Bernie “living wage” Sanders pays his interns only $12 an hour
Not a Sanders fan, but many interns are paid nothing and fall outside of wage laws. $12 hour as an intern is pretty generous. But I do see your point if you preach $15 minimum wage you should lead by example.

It reminds me of Union members paying picketers pennies on the dollar and no benefits because they want higher wages and better benefits from their employer!

I agree that it is better than nothing. But he's the Social Democrat. He had a chance to take the moral high ground, "walk the walk", and pay his interns a "living wage". He didn't.

According to the link in the OP he apparently had no problem paying his wife and another family member a very a nice consulting fee.....DOH!

Idiot.

Rules are different for lawmakers and "for profit" private sector employers when it comes to paying interns. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, "for profit" private sector internships may only be unpaid if they are educational, don't replace regular employees, provide "no immediate advantage" to the employer, and meet certain other criteria, according to the Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division.

A separate law, however, applies to U.S. congressional employees and exempts interns from the right to payment.

Unlike the private sector, lawmakers aren't profiting personally from the work of interns, Eisenbrey said, but "that doesn't mean they shouldn't pay them for their work."

Paying his interns $12 an hour is "taking the high road" when everyone else is going with $0.
